Can Luque handle the heat?

By Lee Ryder on Aug 1, 06 02:25 PM

Albert LuqueIt seems that many of you are willing to give Albert Luque a second bite of the cherry.

Luque’s future though could still be up in the air especially if Newcastle get their hands on one or two of the strikers they require to try to fill the gaps left by Alan Shearer and the injured Michael Owen.

But as far as Luque is concerned, the time is now and he shouldn’t need motivation in United’s next friendly clash against Spanish outfit Villarreal after starring against them many times in his La Liga days.

He may have taken time to get to grips with his English but it’s all about letting his goals and his football do the talking from now on.

Whether the Spanish international thrives in the heat or melts in it remains to be seen.

i defintely think luque should be given a chance to really prove himself this season. dont forget although he had a difficult first season he was beset by injuries, yes he apparentely made some comments which werent particularly forthcoming but i think in my opinion that was down to frustration of being injured and away from his family. while he hasnt excactly set the world alight this pre season the way he converted that penalty against PSV proves that he has got quality and we should all take thepositives from that.

I think Luque will do ok but not any better, i think he is too fradgile for the Premiership. We still need to look for a big name number 9 to take over the mantle from the last genius who wore it.
If not retire the shirt altogether.

I think that if we keep Luque, then we will have a player of high-class. I also tthink that he is good enough physically for the Premier League now, which he was not last season. Look at this video, he is a super-player.

Luque is really an awesome player, when fully fit. I think it would be a mistake to let him go and he hasn't really been given a proper chance. However, now is his time and I think he will rise to the occasion. Fantastic player, the fans needs to leave him alone..

From the first time he came onto the pitch I thought he was class. Not as robust as Shearer but more skill and definite heading ability.Im sure given his chance he will be sucessful and score lots of goals

Luque is the type of player Glenn Roeder is saying he does not want at SJP.
Cass act in Spain but can' cut the mustard over here the money has attracted him and we should cut our losses and get rid.
Use his wages to bring in Ashton

Luque will definately come good for us, you can see it already with 4 goals from the last 4 games he's played. Ok these are all pre season games and it includes the testimonial but its a good sign of things to come. It always seems to take the Spanish players a season to adjust and Albert got a very bad injury last season, which didn't help his confidence, but you can see now that he is beginning to enjoy himself at the Toon and putting last season behind him. I expect big things from him this season, like some of the tricks he was pulling off against PSV and leading to more and more goals.

its 4 goals in 4 games for wor albert. I think we should give him a chance and then everyone who doubted him will realise why he cost 9.5m

Truth is we have no option but to go with Luque but why not?
Last season was a non entity for the guy for all the reasons we know. This season is effectively his start at Newcastle and he is trying hard to impress.
Anyone committed to giving it his best shot needs the support of all the fans before they give their judgement on his success or otherwise.
Go for it Albert, I love a trier!
