Toon fans ready for Sir Bobby tribute
Get well soon Sir Bobby Robson â or at least that will be the loud message when Newcastle resume their European campaign against Ventspils on Thursday night.
The proposed scarf day on Saturday against Wigan may well have turned out to be a wash out in more ways than one, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise.
For it is against the Latvian side that Toon fans will come together in unison with scarves at St James' Park to pay tribute to RobsonâÂÂs achievements on Tyneside - as well as to wish the ex-England boss a speedy recovery following the news about his surgery to remove a brain tumour.
And that means if the atmosphere from Alan ShearerâÂÂs testimonial is emulated it would be a truly fitting tribute for Sir Bobby.
Robson was responsible for transforming us from a laughing stock under crazed Dutchman Ruud Gullit into a team that entertained and found a way back to the Champions League.
What was your best memory though from his time in charge?
8-0 v Sheff Wed? THAT night in Feyenoord? 4-3 at Elland Road? 3-1 at Highbury to go top?....there are too many to mention!
Therefore itâÂÂs time to wave the scarves, roar the lads to victory and pay tribute to Sir Bobby all in one go!

must tell u about my chance meeting with sir bobby on kensington high street a few years ago.
i was minding my own business one lunch time, when there he was.
i said hello and started singing 'there's only one bobby robson' to him!
we had a quick chat and i said he d be more than welcome to restart his managerial career at my beloved stockport county..
i was a bit gutted that i didnt invite him back into the office for a coffee!!
anyway, get well soon sir bobby - you're a top bloke!

Memories of Sir Bobby are still vivid in my mind,with me working around the country i was lucky (or unlucky )to be in Sheffield when Big Alan went nap and bagged five in the 8-0 demolition of the owls. In the weeks running up to the game we took merciless ribbing from the locals about how crap we were and getting some ones grandad in to help out . But what a saturday night in the roundhouse after the game we bumped into another group of geordies and you would have thought we had won the league such was the relief of stopping the rot.But the best memory of Sir Bobbys era was when i was down the smoke for the month before christmas.The shandy drinking jellied eel brigade had once again given us the usual ribbing about how we rubbish we were and just on a bit of a lucky roll and that when we went to Highbury class would show.The rest is history and what a week it was to be in the capital all the apprentices were walking around with N.U.F.C TOP DOG FOR XMAS on there hard hats and singing laurent robert (everyone knows his name)classic.....GOOD LUCK BOBBY THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES......jackie
One more thing i forgot to mention when my nephew was over from australia we went to the training ground to try and grab a few autographs .Sir Bobby came out and gave a few then tried to get in his car my dad approached him for a photo with my nephew and he said he had to dash and would gladly do it another time,my old man explained the lad was from Oz and was leaving at the end of the week.Bobby then shut the car door and went to his boot and took out a signed callender and a couple of pictures gave them to Ryan had his photo taken,messed the lads hair up and jumped in the car and drove off,,Pureley Belter to coin a phrase.....jackie
On Thursday I will be there in spirit waving the scarves for Sir Bobby, as well as for the result. I hope it is scheduled for DSTV here, we usually get the TOON'S matches live on M-NET.
One of my best memories of the great man is through my wifes eyes, when she queued for him to sign his auto biography when she was back on holiday. He actually signed it "To Ian in South Africa" and it will remain in pride of place in my book case.
Meeting him just before the Newcastle v Derby County Prem match in the 99-00 season. It was my first time I had ever seen Newcastle at St James Park. As my dad and I approached St James Park, we saw Robson get out of his car. I remember him signing my newspaper and my programme. We wished him luck. However, he was not too pleased as a queue of fans wanted his autograph. But the gentleman, he is, he signed the autographs. He is a great man, and is someone I hold in the highest regard. I wish him a speedy recovery. To me he is a messiah for the way he turned this great club around and I will be forever thankful for him taking us back into the Champions League.
