Never a dull moment
Dull moments and Newcastle United will never feature in the same copy book.
ItâÂÂs true and itâÂÂs also a fair bet that even though it has all been of a negative nature, there has been as much reaction on Tyneside today than there has in both North and East London following the flurry of transfer activity in the capital.
Chelsea may believe they have an Indian sign over London rivals Arsenal with the capture of Ashley Cole and even though they had to perhaps snap a toe off to get their man, with William Gallas going the other direction, the Blues fans will still be feeling smug tonight in the bars around The Smoke.
And in the East End their still peeling themselves down from the ceiling after the truly sensational swoop for World Cup mega stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano - itâÂÂs schoolboysâ own stuff.
The same can't be said in the Toon.
And even though theyâÂÂll be dancing with their jellied eels and pints of fizzy tonight in London for whatever reason, thereâÂÂll still be plenty of beer sank and even more strong opinions mooted about the lack of big name arrivals at St Jamesâ Park and the signings of Antoine Sibierski and old boy Olivier Bernard.
From Gallowgate to Gateshead, from Shiremoor to South Gosforth and from Whitley Bay to Whickham - plenty of people will have plenty of steam to let off following NewcastleâÂÂs desperately disappointing summer in the transfer market.
Yes weâÂÂve signed Damien Duff and Oba Martins - Guiseppe Rossi on loan too - but the outcry on Tyneside today could be heard loud and clear.
The big fear now is whether it will be enough.

The three legends last night was inundated with angry newcastle united fans calls..it won't take long for the boo boys to make St James a place for the home team to fear rather than the opposition. We have to try and remain positive and hope that Glenn can motivate the current squad aswell as he motivated the players when he took over last season. Howay Glenn, make the grumblers eat there words!
IT DOSN`T SURPRISE ME THAT CHELSEA & ARSENAL ARE BUYING LEFT RIGHT & CENTRE, ITS A SHAME NUFC CANT BUY THE RIGHT PLAYERS INSTEAD OF THEM
Do we not have any pulling power any more? Have all the decent players looked at the way players like Milner, Luque etc have been treated and finally decided Newcastle is not a good club to play for?
I'm happy with Bernard, he is a good left back. But Sibierski is hardly the standard we require, and Rossi is just desperation.
Roeder supposedly went for Lucas Neill (not a bad player), Robert Huth (I don't know anyone who rates him) and Zat Knight (who I personally think is plain rubbish).
With the players mentioned above, I am very worried about Roeder's judgement of player ability. Let's just hope the massive gamble he took on Martins pays off - then it won't matter how well Sibierski and Rossi do in the reserves...
Any chance of a straight swap? FS for Gibson appeals to me.
very poor in the transfer market I am not sure if our manager and chairman should keep their jobs.Is it true GR is going to watch Dirk Kuyt playing at Anfield before making his mind up wether to sign him.
The annual transfer window scrabbling about shows NUFC need to adopt a pro-active transfer policy if they are to ever achieve success. This means completly over hauling the scouting network and buying philosophy. Instead of paying big fees for (often) poor players(Boumsong). NUFC need to spot up and coming talent, sign and then nurture it. Rather like Arsenal do now, and Liverpool used to in the seventies and eighties.
We don't have the millions of Chelsea or now, it appears, West Ham.
Sadly over recent dseasons though the amount of money spent and mis spent has given some of the younger supporters the idea that its expensive signings that matter, sorry lads its not.
Instead of looking at Chelsea look at the really successful teams, Wigan, Bolton, Portsmouth and yes Arsenal. If bangs per buck matter they have doen far better than Chelsea and we must start to persue more value for money players, more players who actually want to play for the club and build a team, not a balance sheet or a transfer window fire works display.
The management falsely raised expectations this time round, time for everyone to calm down and get back to footie, playing it and supporting our favourite team.
By now the brown ale has worn off and all the ranting and raving over the poor last day deadline signings or lack of them has fizzled out,we are now where every long serving member of the Newcastle circus has been before,,,having our bubble burst, its nothing new to the majority of toon fans, and for as long as i can remember i have built my hopes up only for them to be snatched away. This normally happens about six games in ,granted we have had some fantastic times in the keegan and Robson eras but ultimatley it all ends in tears.....................Thats the facts out the way now lets get down to what really matters,We are Newcastle United and yes we didnt get everything we wanted on thursday but have we ever ..the team we have is a good premiership team..debatable i know but come on .. Parker, Emre , Given , Duff , Butt , Martins , Zoggs , ...Owen and Dyer to come back Ameobi has started well , Taylor is a talent which just needs a bit of nurturing ..Obrien will be a top player ,chuck in Milner Solano Moore and as many on here are saying Olly and you have a group of p[layers who would get a game in a lot of premiership teams the secret is getting them to gel together and become a team . Is Glen that man? who knows but bigger men than him have tried and failed so lets give the bloke a chance ,and as regards to the big man..Old Fred isnt that bad and when your sitting in our 52,000 all seater watching upwards of aboput 70 million pound running about on the pitch remember who got us that , and he can not be blamed for performances on the pitch. Shout for all the big players but look at Leeds when they bought beyond there means.to steal a quote...."i used to cry when i had no shoes till i met someone with no feet"..so come on and lets do what we do best and get behind the manager and team .We are Newcastle United.Jackie
the money Roeder and his scouts has spent on air travel this summer looking at players, they could have bought Ashley Cole and that would save having to wait till January for Bridge. Speaking of the name Cole, a certain Andy left Man City for Portsmouth this week, he would have been a better stopgap for us rather than the the one City sent to us on deadline night, Nice one Mr F S AND G R you got a real find there, he is 32 and can't get a game for City, Glen says he is good in the air, so is Concorde!
OK, it could have been better, we desperately need a new centre half and probably a right back (Olli is a good left back) However, lets not forget that at the end of last season Moore, Bramble, Taylor & co did very well and the defence was one of the best in the league during the final qtr of the season. There is no reason then why they can't up their game again is there? I believe that Wayne Bridge will come here in January and I also believe we will sign other new players too. I think that by signing Rossi GR has increased our striking options and I also believe that Sibierski is a reasonable squad player who will give us a bit more of a physical presence in the box at set pieces and from crosses. My main message is lets stop the complaining for now and do what Geordies do best, support our football club.
Its about time NUFC supporters gave Freddie Shephard credit for his unstinting and tireless efforts on behalf of the Magpies. Imagine the pressure he has been under with Sir John and Douglas wanting him to sell his shareholding to faceless investors, as well as having to deal with and try and impress premiership mercenaries to sign on. He will be just as gutted as all of us in our inability to sign top quality strikers to cover Shola and Owen!! His critics should give him a break and get behind him and the team. One should also look at Chelsea's record of losses on transfer deals, circa ã70 million - easy come easy go for Abramovich. No one in their right mind would want that record of reckless transfer dealings.
David Thompson
Will be an interesting next couple of months. We need matters sorted out off the pitch first...is this take over ever really going to happen? I don't think FS wants to sell his shares...which leaves us in political and financial limbo...
Anyone fancy Diego Tristan on a free transfer? Proven goalscorer in La Liga and The Champions League over many seasons, plus it would provide Luque with a desperately needed morale booster having an old Spanish friend join him at the club...
I am not at all pleased by the signings that we have made in this transfer window. Sibierski is an unknown quality and Rossi is hardly anyone who would strike fear into Chelsea's defence let alone Manchester United.
hello, Lee
Bernard i can understand,he was the best Newc had in defence for a long time
and he is good!
but Sibierski!! Nobody understand why him?
A midfielder again en don't tell me he's gonne play up front, if his record
of goalscoring is correct
then he's gonne score abour 4 or 5 times for the whole season!!
I think the lost it at newc and we gonne have a season full of frustrations
again!!
to alle the other teams out there, if you come to SJP just wait 'till
Bramble make's the mistake
or is to late or to soon or loses his concentration!!
its so easy to play against NC !
greets from Belgium!!!
(My son and i will watch it anyway on Sky tv and hope they prove us
wrong!!!!!)
Hi Lee Well the usual fiasco continues with Newcastle making the headlines
for all the wrong reasons. When will this club conduct itself more like a
well organised business instead of something which attracts a media circus.
How must Milner feel? Glen Roeder is hawking the lad around like something
in the summer sales, and recalling the boy on a mere whim. We have long
suspected GR wants to sell Milner, How can the lad perform with this kind of
shoddy treatment. This does nothing to instil any confidence in Roeders
judgement as we the fans know Milner should be in the team along with Zoggy.
Contrast that with Roeders obsession in relying on Bramble {As opposed to
Taylor } then you can see why we are worried. Early warning signs on the
playing front do not instil us with much optimism either.
i am unsure of sibierski i was told by a mate at city nufc onli paid ã250,000 4 him so i think roedr jst brought him in to take a place as a tall bloke to knock it down to oba rossi is a classy finisher so well done GR n bernard we all thought him leavin 4 ã750,000 was a joke bt not so however southampton basic jst gave us that as weve gt im bk 4 free nw hes class say no more bt 1 thing puzzles me we netted bout ã8.8 million this transfer window we spent ã15.35 mill FS gave GR ã14mill to spend by that as far as i can see we still gt 7.45 mill left roughly thats enough to secure Bridge and Tim de Cler i jst hope my mate wasnt lyin n we actually spent 7.7 million on sibieski lol
seriously if we field 11 drunk pigeons or a bag of cats to face fulham i honestly dont care all i know is im gonna scream myself hoarse 4 the badge theyll all be wearin i suggest that all real fans join me n cheer till their throats are dry and sore and then ill cheer the final score fulham nothin NEWCASTLE 4 thanks for readin
