Dyer need of some sparkle
It's probably the best bit of news for quite a while at Newcastle United.
Kieron Dyer back on a football field.
The England international has just completed 45 minutes in a practice game as his comeback reaches a conclusion.
The fact that Dyer is making giant strides every day towards his first team comeback can only be good news for all Toon fans.
He wasn't exactly pulling up any trees before he got injured last season after another long road back from injury and his chequered history will always leave some Newcastle fans cautious.
Yet my opinion is on his day he has to considered one of the top 20 midfielders in Europe.
We've seen it before Dyer bursting into the last third and causing havoc and although he'd like to have scored a few more, he has also proved goals will come his way.
Last season we got a glimpse of KD when he netted the crucial strike against Southampton in the FA Cup.
And United fans are desperate for a bit more too.
Now after a 45 minute practice run out soon to be topped up to an hour in a second practice match, Dyer is back on the trail to recovery after a nagging hamstring problem has resulted in six months in the treatment room.
In terms of ability he doesn't have anything to prove but if he is to reach his potential now really is the time for Dyer.
Hopefully it's the end of injury hell for Dyer and the start of something very good for Newcastle United.

Let's hope Dyer dosen't break down again. He could be the difference this season if we can get 20+ games out of him.
I get the feeling that it will be now or never for him after this come back?
A lot of people will feel like that.
But wouldn't it be great to see him enjoy a change in fortunes?
Kieron Dyer is a bit of an enigma as most discussions about our current squad does not include him as most people dismiss his chances of getting a regular run in our team. But i have a good feeling about his latest comeback and i for one have my fingers crossed he will finaly show what he can do over the course of the season. He is our best midfielder on his day and just needs to be injury free to give Glen a much needed boost and drag us up to right half of the table. As regards to being in the top twenty in europe i would like to bet that it could be top ten if he could stay fit and Mclaren could look at ditching the gormless lampard ,,bring Stevie G into the centre with Parker and use Dyer on the right .............well maybe not but who knows...jackie
Good lad Lee. First you told us that we have the best midfield for many years, now Dyer is in the top twenty midfielders in the world. No doubt you write Freds script when he says we are in the top ten clubs in the world.
We all wish Dyer well but reality must not be deserted when it comes to his past performances and what he can offer for the future. He has failed to produce consistenly in the past and his greatest achievment must be seen as his ã4 million a year contract from Souness.
Lets hope he does do well because our current midfield lacks collective fight, creativity and pace. It simply can't get a lot worse!
Ryder's reply: "Football is all about opinion and if you can come up with 20 midfielders who are better and why in no fewer than 250 words, then I take my hat off to you."
a fit KD would be a god send to the toon, many fans forget before his injury problems dyer was, in my humble opion, one of the top english midfielders in the county.the only thing missing from dyer's game was the goals and he was beginning to find the net when his run of injuries began. i for one believe newcastle will be a better team with KD than without him and wish him all the best on his return
Interesting point about whether or not KD is one of the top 20 midfielders in Europe. So here of the top of my head are several who i consider better than KD.
Gerrard, Lampard, Duff, Parker, Beckham, Wright-Phillips, Makalele, Ballack, Joe Cole, Fabregas, Ljungberg, Alonso, C Ronaldo, Giggs, Ronaldinho, Messi, Vieira, Riquelme, K Nolan, A Robben. T Cahill, J Jenas, A Lennon, M Carrick, Kaka.
Nice list Inchy! I have to disagree about Jenas though, he is one of the most average players in the Premiership. Personally I would throw Gattuso into the equation for starters, then maybe Joaquin, Giuly, Pirlo, Stankovic, Diarra, Rosicky, Baraja, Ribery, Juninho... there's plenty of contenders to be fair. But Dyer has to be among them when he's fit and used effectively - there's no doubting he adds something to any team and can terrorise any defence on his day.
Oh, and how could I forget to mention... Hugo Viana! :D
Adam, yes i debated the Jenas one and thought that I would throw in it to raise a few eyebrows. I guess the real question is how many on the two lists would you prefer to have in your team ahead of KD? Personally I am now a bit apathetic towards KDs return, we have heard it so many times, he was supoposed to be fit for the Bolton game and now he isnt. True, he can run at defenders but for me he lacks end product to his play and we all know his finishing ansd goalscoring record needs to improve. I get more excited about whether or not NÃÅœZogbia is in the line up rather than KD
True, KD has often flattered to deceive. But he's often taken teams apart single handedly as well - remember against Lisbon when we were in total control, then we capitulated after he went off. The trouble is keeping him fit - if we do that and Roeder uses him effectively we will be laughing. Pretty big "if" though - knowing our luck he will probably sneeze and be out for another 3 seasons.
