It could only happen to Kieron Dyer and it has again.
Just two days after making a successful comeback from injury Dyer is hurt once more.
Dyer will not play against Charlton tomorrow night after sustaining a freak eye injury in training.
Most Toon fans will fear the worst.
But this time it is expected Dyer will not sit out for six months.
Thankfully Dyer - who was looking good against Portsmouth - will only miss two weeks of action.
It comes just at a time when United need him most but after taking a knock on his eye, Dyer has been advised to miss a fortnight starting against Charlton.
Glenn Roeder has described it as cruel luck but that's the story of 2006 for Dyer.
More worryingly with Oba Martins and Shola Ameobi struggling with injuries too and Seppe Rossi cup-tied in Europe, United will head to Palermo next week short on numbers in terms of strikers meaning Albert Luque will never get a better chance of glory.
Whether Luque takes it remains to be seen.
But the question of the day as far as Toon fans are concerned is when will Dyer get the rub of the green?
