The Toon fans who were at St James' Park last night will still be drying out now but they won't be complaining too much after witnessing a superb 3-0 win over Portsmouth in the Carling Cup.
There can't be any moans other than the drenching the loyal sections of the Toon Army endured but by the same token nobody will be getting carried away.
But wasn't it good to see Kieron Dyer running at defences?
Dyer's half hour cameo was refreshing for all to see concerned with black and white and the midfield ace managed to get through it unscathed.
But the plus points don't end there.
Nigel Pearson has had his input over the last few days with the Toon defence and it managed to coincide with Titus Bramble's best game at centre-back for quite some time.
In fact the whole back four looked solid and apart from the odd scare they never really looked as if Pompey would trouble them.
And what about two goals for Nobby Solano?
Solano was left out all together at Middlesbrough and obviously wasn't a happy bunny but professionally he responded with a first class contribution on a night for players that will graft for the cause.
Then there was Seppe Rossi's first goal for Newcastle.
The little Italian Under-21 star has waited in the wings patiently and although it must have been frustrating for the Man U loanee, he remained focus to grab the first goal.
United may still be at the wrong end of the Premiership this morning and are now facing an away day at Watford in the next round.
But surely nobody can have any complaints about the Portsmouth game!
