Time to dust off the trumpet

By Lee Ryder on Oct 13, 06 12:09 PM

Nobby SolanoThey kiss the ground he walks upon in Peru and he plays the trumpet in his spare time.

He's also a half decent footballer too.

You can only be talking about one man when you say stuff like that - Nobby Solano.

The little Peruvian is back in the fold against Bolton on Sunday and for some Toon fans, he's been missed.

Unorthodox can be his middle name at times but Solano has certainly proved to be United's saviour before and there's nothing to suggest he won't do it again before his time's up at St James' Park.

Last season Solano was in tip-top form going into the final straight and his stunning free-kick against Bolton in last term's win over the Trotters was one of the reasons United are back in Europe.

He cheated death in the summer when his car flipped over several times then hit a tree but he survived and despite coming back to Tyneside in one piece it was a hamstring of all things that forced him out of the last two months.

United haven't set the world on fire from free-kicks this season in his absence but the Toon Army would love to see him strike a Nobby special against Bolton and finally get back to business at home.

This time last year Alan Shearer told the Chronicle how much he missed Solano when he was out injured and with one win in the five Premiership games he's been out for, it could be fair to say there are a few of the current squad who feel the same.

Over to you Nobby.

I can't wait for Nobby to be back. Milner has given 110% every game in his absence - a sterling effort. But sadly, for all his efforts, I don't think Milner will ever be a match for Nobby - he just doesn't have the passing or crossing of his Peruvian chum. Maybe Nobby can bring Oba some of the through-balls he has been so desperately awaiting!

Some argue that Nobby is past his best and Milner needs more games. However, I believe that he is still the best passer and set-piece taker, also the most creative midfielder we have. Yes, Emre is the closest to be compared with him, but Nobby is far more experienced. It is such a luxury to have both Nobby and a classic winger like Milner in the same squad, it is now down to Roeder to make the choice.
