My delight after the Italian Job - Moncur
It was a result that not many punters in Europe were expecting to see.
But a final scoreline of Palermo 0, Newcastle 1 was certainly a sight for sore eyes indeed.
And the victory in Sicily also left triumphant Fairs Cup winning skipper Bob Moncur delighted after the long trip back from Italy.
Just before stepping on to the easyJet flight from Palermo to Milan, Moncur told Blog On The Tyne: "You can give Glenn and his players nothing but praise after beating one of Serie A's top teams.
"But make no mistake, United had to work hard for their win.
"And the performance of outstanding goalkeeper Tim Krul was the difference on a balmy evening in Palermo.
"Albert Luque has chipped in with the goal too but Krul provided a great defensive rearguard."
Now United will head to a Tyneside hotel before taking on Sheff United in the Premiership.
And Moncur will be hoping that the gloss won't be taken off such a fine result.
He added: "This is the next test and Palermo will be a distant memory if we don't beat Sheff United.
"Let's hope that the old saying wins breed confidence and confidence breeds wins comes into play."

Too right Bob, Krul was out of this world
Hard luck for him that he now returns to the bench
