Wat a night!
No matter how hard you try you just cannot predict what Newcastle United will do next.
They couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo against Sheffield United so who would have predicted an early lead in the Carling Cup at Watford tonight?
And then after cup king Antoine Sibierski had glanced United in front when they were all over the Hornets like a rash, part of you just thought, for once they could kill this one off before the break.
Not so.
Instead United squander a hatful of chances and eventually allow a poor Watford side to edge in front thanks to Damien Francis and Danny Shittu goals.
At that point United looked like they were heading out and perhaps given the way they threw away the lead and wasted some great chances, they deserved to.
But wait a minute.
This is Newcastle we are talking about.
And as many were contemplating that long despressing journey back to Tyneside, guess what?
Nobby Solano only goes and conjures up the equaliser for Scott Parker to take the game to pens.
At that stage it was surely going to be penalty misery in the shoot-out.
Well you would think that given the Toon have never won a spot kick contest in a competitive game.
But no, despite a few jitters from James Milner, this time it would be United's night on pens and so it is into the last eight.
Now what?
Build on it with a win at Man City or normal service for the lads?
In the words of Forrest Gump life is like a box of chocolates for Newcastle - you just don't know what you are going to get!

great result for the boys, but from where i was stood, the result only masks again the problems that we have.
i can't be the only one that noticed that we seemed a little clueless at throw ins, long balls to big antoine to knock down to no one? again carr and babyaro were poor (the latter giving away a needless freekick for their goal)
i mean there were some nice stuff when we got the ball down and moved it about but i just hope this night gives us the confidence to keep the ball down as apposed to humping it long.
Terrific result last night, and I am so pleased for Stevie Harper. Nobody at our club deserves a moment of glory more than he does, especially since Shay will most likely take his place in the imminent future. The guy is a total legend and I hope that, even if Given gets back in the team in the Premiership, Harps gets his chance in any further League Cup matches this season.
I know a few people who would like to make a suggestion or two regarding the running of the club!
