United kick off festive period by earning their Spurs

Posted by Lee on December 23, 2006 6:37 PM |

Newcastle United rounded off 2006 at St James' Park with an excellent display against Tottenham as Glenn Roeder's side put in one of their best performances of the season so far.

It has to be said United did manage to squeeze in their odd silly patch to allow Spurs a chink of light after flying into a 2-0 lead but after arguably killing off the game before the interval, Roeder and Co know that their festive period at least started in the best possible fashion.

True, Spurs went for it for a while after the break but at 3-1 down they had to and United could have easily added to their tally in the second half.

So was this a sign of things to come?

The Premiership table looks a lot better these days after sinking into the relegation zone not that long ago.

But with Bolton and Everton coming up in the next few days, after the turkey has been digested that is, it's Man United at home on the first day of 2007 and let's be honest while United are capable of getting something out of all of those games, they are also capable of getting nothing.

However, Chelsea aside, the last dozen games have been more than promising.

Scott Parker is coming back into top form again while Oba Martins, who also netted against Spurs, completed a trio of goalscorers against the Londoners.

All three look like class acts.

Let's hope it can continue.
