It's back to reality for Newcastle tonight against Reading at St James' Park in a game they simply cannot afford to slip up.
United were in the bottom three this morning and with the next two games on the roads at Blackburn and Chelsea, victory was a must.
The task against newly promoted Reading doesn't look an easy one on paper.
The Royals have not really feared anybody so far but they have endured a couple of beatings at Liverpool and at home to Arsenal.
But against teams below or around them they've done OK and sadly for Newcastle United, they are a substantial number of places below them.
Glory in the UEFA Cup has eased the strains of a miserable season and progress in the Carling Cup at least gives us a fighting chance of reaching the semis.
But the Premiership picture is serious as the hectic Christmas period approaches.
True, when the injuries clear up Newcastle United could still achieve a respectable finish in the Premiership.
But if that is to be achieved surely it has to start against Reading doesn't it?
Injuries or no injuries - defeat tonight could signal only the start of a long hard winter at Gallowgate.
