Oba needs a strike from open play but there's plenty of proof he can still do the business in Toon
It can't be easy filling Alan Shearer's shirt can it?
But today's question is: Will £10million striker Oba Martins cut the mustard at St James' Park?
Some observers say that he is starting to show signs of living up to the pressure of leading the line for Glenn Roeder's side.
Yet so far we've seen only glimpses of what he can do, Reading being a good example of this.
True, he did show the bottle to first nick the ball off Nobby Solano and then fire home from the spot.
But he also missed chances that a striker wearing number 9 for Newcastle should be taking.
He did rescue a bird from the pitch as well but it is goals we are after!
Of course he will never be as prolific as Shearer, nobody probably will, perhaps not even Michael Owen when he is eventually back on his feet.
Martins link up play is gradually improving but maybe he needs a lesson from Mick Quinn in hunger.
No, not in the pie stakes but goalscoring.
Quinny was the master of knocking people out of the way to score, including his Granny as he once admitted on Match of the Day, and Martins needs to be the same.
Alan Shearer recently highlighted similar points on TV and if Martins can forget about scoring the perfect goal and scoring scruffy goals from two yards out, he's got a chance to become a Toon hero.
In the end United relied on an Emre wonder strike last night against Reading but they don't come along every game and what's been missing is a regular flow of goals.
Any striker will tell you that goals will come and go but Antoine Sibierski is living proof that if you have the belief and confidence not to mention work-rate - anything can be achieved at this special club.
