Oba Martins' no show in the Nigeria v Ghana game at Brentford's Griffin Park last night was explained today after uncertainty surrounded exactly where the player was.
Reports coming from Nigeria suggested that Martins had been back in Lagos to bring his sick mother back to Tyneside and this morning Glenn Roeder confirmed this to the Chronicle to clear the matter up.
The Nigerian FA were thought to be far from happy from the player's absence but they appear to be for good reasons.
After all it was only a friendly at a League One ground!
Nigeria and Ghana fans have been building the game in London last night up as a grudge match and the unofficial African Cup of Nations final.
Any game between two rival countries has plenty of examples of crunch tackles, England-Scotland, Holland-Germany and even Mexico-USA so Nigeria-Ghana is no different.
Therefore it might just have been a blessing in disguise Martins missed out.
And with the player back in Newcastle today training for the Liverpool game it has to be said, the importance of his presence against the Merseysiders is much more important than a kickabout at Brentford.
Let's hope that he can add to his 11 goals already on Saturday.
Welcome home Oba.
