Newcastle United certainly owe their public one when they make the trip to the JJB Stadium on Sunday make no mistake about that.
Last time out 8,000 Geordies turned up for a midweek televised Carling Cup tie and were let down against Wigan reserves in a game that was the beginning of the end for a certain Mr Souness.
This time surely it can't be worse!
A quick glance at the record books will show you a 1-0 win for Wigan but that only tells half a story.
United should have been dead and buried by half-time in that game and had it not been for some top class saves from Shay Given, they would have been.
How they managed to hold out until the last minute is anyone's guess.
And it somehow took a last gasp penalty kick from now Sunderland striker David Connolly to seal the win.
It was awful.
That night Scott Parker went off while the penalty was being taken to vomit due to an illness that had dogged him for the whole game and three minutes later there were thousands in black and white shirts ready to do the same.
Even with Michael Owen and Alan Shearer in the Premiership fixture last term it was another 1-0 defeat, so this time the Mags have to deliver for the 5,000 who make the trip to rugby league land.
Unlike the only previous two visits to the JJB, Newcastle have a different manager and are in form.
Indeed three wins in a row give us cause for, wait for it, optimism!
But surely we aren't getting carried away are we?
Whatever happens it can't be worse than the Carling Cup exit!
