Messiahs and helicopters appear to go together hand in hand.
Kevin Keegan left the hallowed St James' Park as a player by one and across the fine Tyneside skies this morning emerged another chopper - hopefully containing the man who finally sorts out the mess that is Newcastle United.
Sam Allardyce touched down at St James' Park today with the reputation of a man that who can inspire and get the best out of players.
In El Hadji Diouf alone - Allardyce managed to pick the African player up from the floor when his career looked like it was over and turn him into a genuine threat in the Premiership.
First up for Allardyce will be to meet with troubled stars Oba Martins and Charles N' Zogbia as well as Michael Owen - who seems to be keen on returning to the North-West.
Allardyce is thought to have money waiting to spend but in the past he has proved he can get the best out of Bosman transfers too.
He has already admitted this is the biggest test of his career and is hell-bent on finally ending the trophy drought that has plagued the Toon Army and some of the biggest names in football in the dug-out.
Bobby Robson, Ruud Gullit, Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Kevin Keegan all failed to bring in some silverware.
And when United turned to a man not deemed a big name in Glenn Roeder that failed as well.
So in Allardyce have United finally nailed a man who is right in the middle?
Not a big name as a player but with the managerial background and ambition to finally sort this lot out?
And as Big Sam took his seat in the Press Conference at lunchtime you could almost taste the anticipation in a room as the Geordie public looks forward to an era that they hope will be one to tell their grandchildren about.
Spaceage methods and a scientific approach to the game are already on the CV for Big Sam and even though he hasn't won a trophy to date - the whole of Tyneside are waiting for that to change for both the new boss and the current set of fans who have felt the pain since 1969 when Bob Moncur hoisted the Fairs Cup
