The final curtain

Posted by Lee on May 4, 2007 12:42 PM |

Another season at St James' Park and another soap opera for many of those who choose to spend their winters crowded round that hallowed turf.

Yes, it's been another rollercoaster but the lows have by far outweighed the highs!

So far we've witnessed seven wins, four draws and four defeats.

Not the best home record but still a little bit too close to some of the worst - well dangerously close.

It's not good enough but if you are a traveller on away games, it's a dam sight better than 12 defeats on the road!

Highlights at home in the Premiership this season have certainly been the 2-1 win over Liverpool but sadly we haven't won or even scored since.

The 3-1 wins over Spurs and Aston Villa are also up there with the best but be honest, that's about as good as it gets.

Yes, we held Arsenal and Chelsea to 0-0 draws but those results are welcome yet hard to get excited about.

Lowlights, well where do you start?

Fulham 1-0 up with eight minutes left, then boom, boom. And look where Fulham are now!

Then you have Sheff United at home, Neil Warnock and all of that.

And while we may have held Arsenal and Chelsea to stalemates, the same can be said of Boro and Charlton.

In truth United have struggled badly against the teams that go into the last two weeks of the season looking to secure their Premiership status.

Indeed Boro, Sheff United, Fulham, West Ham, Charlton and Wigan all face an uncertain fortnight but Newcastle have only taken maximum points from the Latics at home.

Injuries or no injuries. Michael Owen or no Michael Owen.

You have to show some desire to win in front of your own public.

Says it all really.

Tomorrow sees the return of Owen and Shola Ameobi in what is hoped to be a triumphant finale.

Failure to win would also see the bleak hope of Europe via the Intertoto Cup finally die.

For many it would some of us out of our misery.

But victory could see United actually going to Watford next week for the chance of a place in Europe.

You couldn't make it up.

Spent Monday night in hospital in Edinburgh so couldn't watch the match as no Sky in place.
Tried to use the internet service but just buggered it up and ended up with a blank screen with just the mouse cursor visible!
Got texts of the game from my sons and the score really didn't surprise me. I think Newcastle and finally Roeder have worn me out. I am 55 and I can honestly say that I have never been as disinterested in Newcastle as I am now. The team seem to have no fight or concern for who they are playing for. The "manager" just wants to talk about how unlucky he has been with injuries all of the time, I cannot even get angry about him anymore he just bores me senseless. Individual players are clearly here only for the money - Duff, Parker, Emre, Babayaro to name but 4.
The Chairman just doesn't seem to know what to do and must be rueing the decision to axe BR without a definite succession plan in place.
I am really afraid that we will start next season with GR at the helm,FS will give him money to spend, we will start badly, then FS will sack the manaegr and it will all start again. One question though - where is the money coming from? Could NUFC really be the next LUFC?
