Confusion surrounds the future of Kieron Dyer after the player was spotted being consoled at Victoria Park by Toon coach Nigel Pearson.
Make no doubts, Dyer was one of the top men against Pools and his cool running and dribbling through the middle and out wide defied opinions Sam Allardyce will adopt a long ball/long pass system at Newcastle United.
Yet no sooner had the game finished a clearly distressed Dyer was walked on to the pitch and away from the watching media for a one on one with Pearson, sparking panic that no sooner is Dyer back up on his feet, there's another problem.
And no sooner is there a problem, West Ham start sniffing.
Dyer has missed too many games to mention since he signed for United but on his day he is a class act and this Blog, for what it's worth, has underlined he is one of the top 20 midfielders in Europe when he wants to be.
Despite his injuries, baggage and disciplinary problems, he is highly rated enough to be in almost every England squad when fit.
Even last season he showed brief glimpses of exactly what he can do when he wants to.
But that appears to be the problem, it's only when he wants to.
Indeed many Toon fans aren't convinced that after eight years at the club, he will ever produce the business on a consistent basis.
And after eight seasons of being dogged by injuries and bad Press, is he ever going to play 30 games without breaking down for some reason?
Now with plenty of midfield options for Allardyce, such as Geremi, Barton, Butt, Milner, N'Zogbia, Duff and Emre, the question is would a quality player like Dyer be missed if any four of the above list are in form and on song?
As far as West Ham are concerned his old sparring partner Lee Bowyer is there to keep him company as well as Craig Bellamy and Scott Parker.
And from the player's point of view, perhaps a move out of the goldfish bowl like his pal Jermaine Jenas, would sort him out.
But at 28 at such a big club like Newcastle and on such mega money in terms of wages, it really is now or never for Dyer.
