Jolly Boys outing for Toon hierarchy

Posted by Lee on May 8, 2008 9:50 AM |

TOON fans left wondering what's going on after "showdown" meeting announced -

So it's another unwanted twist in the history of Newcastle United.

Kevin Keegan's comments about Newcastle not making it to the top four seem to have coincided with a meeting in London village that our friends from the south have described as a "showdown".

KK has apparently been "summoned" down to London to be told in no uncertain terms not to speak his mind again!

Or at least that's what the London Press would have you believe.

All KK said today at his Press conference was: "The reason we have called the pre-match press conference a day early is because I am going to London to talk with Mike Ashley.
"It's a good thing and I am looking forward to."

I think most Toon fans would agree that KK's comments after Chelsea were fair and nobody really expected to be challenging for a Champions League place in 12 months or indeed 24 months time.

Yet with Eastenders not enough to keep those down south entertained, United have become embroiled in another soap opera by the boys who just love their jellied eels.

Let's be honest, the meeting could still prove to be about transfers.

But whatever happens Dennis Wise, Mike Ashley and the Messiah - who has turned a club heading for the Championship into free flowing attacking machine in the last few weeks without any new faces or money - will sit around a table and have a nice chat about the future.

In the mean time, watch this space or feel free to enjoy something else that originated from London.

Honestly i am sick to death of the national press they are a bunch of snakes, any chance to get a dig in they will take for the sake of sellin a few thousand crap papers. i never listen to anything out of the papers anymore. My mate (who suprisingly is a cockney said to me today 'ooh looks like thats the end of keegan then, showdown talks in london' i was really annoyed coz he was all smug. keegan has done a great job and its no suprise to me, he's turned around this team with nothing, not a nut. and i look forward to the future. His comments were well founded and this league is becoming very predictable at the top 4 spots which is ok if your one of them but if your not its very frustrating. I would settle with a top 8 finish next season and be very happy with that. i am 100% behind wor kev.

I enjoy nowt about London, the best part of London is the road out of it- end of story.

Here's a link I found to cheer everyone up:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLK65bQVfkw

You know what, I half feared this would happen, that Kevin would be at odds (Alledgedly) with this trio of scouts and Mort, plus Ashley, does the words ‘Too many cooks’ spring to mind.

Dennis Wise or ‘Evil Wise’ as I used to call him when he played, probably couldn’t believe his luck when some club gave him a call on his mobile.

Here‘s his Job advert:-

Ailing Top flight Premiership football club requires former professional to take on role of Executive Director. Duties include:-

Travel up to Newcastle a couple of times a month, no need to re-locate.
Watch a few games of football across the world free of charge.
Compile reports and pass the on to General Manager.
Fabulous wage and expenses paid.

Applicants to direct C.V and Written Aplication to Mr Chris Mort, Newcastle United Chairman, London.

The whole set-up seems a little bit disjointed, especially in favour of the Directors, but one thing still keeps me sane, the fact that, no matter how much money is swirling around the corridors at St James Park, no matter, how many henchmen Mort etc, employ in (Seemingly Irrelevant) roles at the club. The one person who will go nowhere is:- Kevin Keegan.

Or at least he won’t be sacked, could you imagine the press release:-

Newcastle today have parted company with Manager Kevin Keegan with immediate effect.

Kevin has been disappointed with what he sees as a conflict of interest at the club and does not wish to be a part of the current set-up.

Newcastle wish to thank Kevin for his work and are now actively seeking a new manager.

Dennis Wise will be in charge for Newcastle’s next game.

Cue 52,000 fans swamping St James’ Park with sticks, stones and effigies and chasing the directors to Central Station and onto the nearest London bound train.

We've waited 12 years to get him back, fans won't allow him to be sacked because of another 'board problem'.

Lets just wait and see what develops, but one things for sure, whilst I don’t trust the set-up at board level.

I do Trust Kevin Keegan

Paul.

Another example of London's press boys wanting to see disharmony at Newcastle.

Half of what they write is drivel, the other half is inacurate and patronising at best. If KK has got a meeting with MA and Co then I say it is mission accomplished as I believe that is why he made the comments he did after Mondays game

With any luck, he will come back north with a promise of extra funds to bring in the quality players we all know are needed even if we want to compete with the Evertons, Villas etc next season.

Charles wrote...

No, I dont think KK is in trouble for stating the fact that Newcastle is not going to challenge the top four next season. It is the fact that KK said he felt unsure of the funds being provided to him.

The fact that Newcastle cant compete with the big four (FOR NOW!!!) is already implanted into the heads of pessimist, realism supporters and of course, the supporters out of Newcastle. Its not embarrassing to state such a fact, its actually commendable.

The funds really starting to twirl around the minds of Newcastle these days. I expect no less than at least 40 million to spend. Any less would be the doom of Newcastle again for another season and any more than 70 million is absurd and unrealistic.

KK WILL get his grip on the team. I expect to see him signing players around the premiership for potential players already. If not, then lets enjoy another season and see what KK can really do without financial help. I dont relish that day though...

Let me make another statement by reinforcing my comments. Newcastle at the MOMENT can never get top four but only FOR the moment. But who knows, when KK brought us back to premier league, we didnt expected the result either...

And Lee, no comment will be made for your selection of the song. Nuff said.

I prefer Busker's song about Geordie girls called Wor Lass, and I'm sick to death of London. I worked there for 6 months once and their women were snobs, even the rough ones. I bet Kev doesn't even stay the night, he'll be on the next plane, train or clipper as soon as the meeting's over. I had to go there 3 years ago by car, and I drove straight back after my 3 hours of business was over.

Regarding the latest doom and gloom coming from the London parasites, the one thing that worries me, is where this story came from? Surely this was a private phone call from Ashley to Keegan,so I assume this was leaked from the London end, so what is Ashleys game? If Kev goes, Ashley can stick his club, and this after 62 years support.

probably thought his little speach was the best way to get face to face with ashley , and its worked !

lets not forget how smart our manager is and who's interests he will be putting first (ours!) .
this has all been keegans plan .

All it needs is for MA - and not Chris Mort - to state clearly why he is having a meeting with KK. It is about time we supporters started boycotting these "newspapers" or least when they carry conjecture/drivel like this.

KK should use the opportunity with MA to tell him we need more quality in the squad. Not to push for top 4 - unattainable in the immediate future - but certainly to target 5th spot which I believe is a reasonable goal.

The press will do anything to sensationalise the story. Talking about ethics, they have none.

Credibility? None as well.

How many times have the press written that Mike Ashley will sell the club? But instead of selling, Mike has brought in more of his own men to run the club. I believe Mike will back KK.

Giuliano wrote...

Love the conspiracy theory about the london media...Unfortunately having just watched a clip of Kev's press conference on the bbc website I feel something is not quite right. If it is just a meeting about transfers, why not just say so, why is that suddenly urgent, and what exactly is it that can't be dealt with over the phone with a game coming up. Keegan has not looked at ease over the past few days and changing the day of a press conference to enable him to meet with the club owner in London at short notice is always going to be a media story at any big club. As usual NUFC are their own worst enemies. It can't be that hard to let the manager know what to expect regarding transfers and to act when he asks for contract talks to start with Owen.

Ashley: Hi Kev, glad youve arrived

Keegan: So, lets get straight to the point, 200 million??

Ashley: You must be mad, id only have 1800 million left after that

Keegan: Ahhhh I see

Ashley: So, call it a mutal agreement then?

Keegan: By the look on your face, i have no choice do I.

Ashley: Excellent, ill get that specky assistant of mine to send out a press release tommorow then, its been nice working with you Kevin, enjoy your soccer circus.

(I dont think this will actually happen I was just bored, its probably just a meeting about potential signings/long term plans etc etc blown out of proportion by the press)

Pedi wrote...

Whether this meeting is KK's masterplan for extra funds or not its put us back in the focus of the national press. All this bad publicity will hardly help attract players to the club. If ashley wanted to talk to KK about his quotes why didnt he do it privately.
I cant see them sacking KK but worringly they may try to force him out by other means if he continues to tell the truth. Ashley can always say he gave us what we wanted in having KK back as manager. I guess the outcome of this meeting will show us exactly what Ashley plans for NUFC good or bad.

Jonathan Clark wrote...

Ashley is a successful businessman. He is also very shrewd. He HAS already spent pots of money clearing the clubs debt - how many other clubs are in such a healthy financial situation now?. This season was always about consolidation whilst making changes for the longer term well-being of the club. KK's comments might just be a smokescreen, but a better strategy must surely be to spot young and developing talent, and to bring that through the ranks, than to keep spending oodles with no profitable return. We need a new direction for NUFC, and maybe away from the money grabbing agents and their foreign imports. Hows about getting back to the idea of a team of Geordies?, with heart and pride in their club, and no little skill too. I wouldmuch prefer a team of new gazzas, waddles, beardsleys & co than these overpaid and underperforming prima donnas....

Im not a cockney but I am a southerner as the name suggests!!! I have however been a life loon toon supporter and I am married to a great Geordie lass (I agree with an earlier quote that London/Southern woman are snobs! Even the rough ones!!)

I think we should all calm down a little, yes we hate seeing the Toon splashed over the back pages for the wrong reasons but it sells newspapers. And I bet some of the people who have posted on here have bought those papers?? You will never change that fact as the public will not stop buying the papers that write this rubbish.

The Sun will love nothing more than to be able to write a Saturday headline of 'Keegan leaves toon again!' So I want to be positive and say that I am sure this meeting will be a successful one between Mike and Kevin. A few drinks and sum lunch whilst discussing the list of players that KK would like to go and get, with Ashley saying 'Yes, no problem, lets go get um!'

Well you can't say I am not trying to stay positive!!!

I am sure that KK will still be in charge at the start of next season, it would make no sense to sack him , so unless KK walks away then he will still be there. Maybe the amount of cash needed will be a problem but if Ashley announces Wise as Manager for the last game of the season he must know what reponse he will get??? He might be relatively new to the club but he can't be that stupid? Can he??

Fingers crossed that the Saturday junk paper headlines will be 'Toon sign Messi, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho in record swoop!!!'

As one other writer has said, we have waited 12 years for KK's return and none of the lies and stirring by the southern press will alter the fans' view of Kevin.

He has told the truth on the status quo of our club AT THE MOMENT yet he has been misreported as usual by the biased press - FACT, they cannot even print accurately what he said. Simple as that.

Howay the lads.

Cockney spiv only ever comes on here to stir the sh*t, in fact I believe he's a mackem or even sadder, a smoggie. I challenge you Spiv, if you are from London, what is the name of the pub on the corner of Elder avenue and Crouch End Broadway, or the pub on the corner of Sussex gardens and Edgeware road? If you can't or won't answer one of these, you ain't no cockney bro. You probably wait til there's something negative about the toon in your sun or daily star, then find a library to use their computer. Sad little man.

more complete sh£$%e to come out of london again . making more of a story than whats needed . KK was totally right in what he was saying and if he is going to get summoned and sent to the naughty step for it then MA and Chris death will not be very popular on tyneside tomorrow

However i dont think this is the case , i truly believe CM and MA want to take this club forward i believe they will back keegan ( not with an overwhelming amount of money ) but with enough to make one hell of an impact , they have bought this club remember that was debt ridden and ruined by mr shepard so do we really think that MA who is a buisnessman and a good one at that wants the project that he has invested a lot of money into slip into problems with more debt by spending over the odds for players and trying to compete with the big boys ,

It has to take time we cant just expect to get it straight away keegan was spot on fith next season is a realistic target if backed so lets just wait and see if it can happen
