Newcastle players must act like radgies at a house party when Chelsea come to Toon

Posted by Lee on May 1, 2008 8:28 AM |

Just like the group of radgies at your house party that you don't even know - who are nicking all of your fatha's cans - Newcastle United must take on Chelsea and send them back to London with their title celebrations well and truly extinguished - basically they must spoil the party.

Not to do Manchester United any favours, far from it, who cares who wins the title either way?

As great as the feeling of being unbeaten in the last seven games has been for the Geordie Nation, deep down Toon fans could be hoping to see their side do one of the big guns over.

And the fact that the Chelsea game is the final game of the campaign at home means that in theory the Newcastle players and coaching staff will want to send fans away happy (ish) for the summer with three points.

Unlike last season's final home game justified post-match vows from some season ticket holders that they wouldn't be renewing for the new term are unlikely to dominate the after match drinking circuit around the Toon.

However, should Newcastle send the London boys packing with a complete performance on a summer of high hopes and anticipation lies in wait.

Certainly if Toon players to opt for a lap of honour it could be the most well recieved final day farewell from the players for four years.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

We've now got a say in who the title goes to so I hope to God we take our chance and try to stuff them.
The fact that we will be doing the Mancs a favour, does, and should not come in to the equation;end this season on a bit of a high, and some optimism will flow through the close season and into next.
Give them a game that they're not going to forget in a long time!

I think the lads will get their ovation regardless of the result. If we lose, it'll be a good send off into the summer. If we win, windows will shatter in Castle Leazes from the noise.

And let's not forget that Chelski have failed to beat us in five attempts, losing three of those! If we could do it under Souness and Roeder, we sure as hell can do it under KK.

Recently when we have played them they have had little to play for with titles etc already being decided. I think it will be a great game

Sorry but here's one Toon fan who won't be too upset if we lose this one if only to stop ManU winning anything this year. Thought Sir Alex's and his team's behaviour last weekend was appalling and they deserve nothing - if we can help then so be it.

I think The game is dependant on which Chelski show up. If we get the confident Chelsea team that beat the North west reds in their last 2 games this could be a struggle, and in spells they are unplayable, or alternatively if we get the super super confident chelski who think they can turn up and turn any team over with ease, we have a massive chance of putting the smile back on the faces of at least one of the red teams from the north west by this time tuesday.
As a very proud GEORDIE NORTHERNER i hope we get the second Chelski, and kick their soft southern butts all the way back to Stamford Bridge and allow our Fellow Northern Kinsman to hold on to the Trophy they surely deserve!
Willy Wallace eat yer heart out!!!!!!

Well lets hope KK can find the next chelsea player to come to newcastle next season. I fancy kalou. or wright phillips. not fussy. i feel that if we keep injecting pace into our team that it will stand us in better stead for next term.
bridge would be a good buy to give the left back position some competition,
Feel the main places we need to fill is wingers with pace, left back and centre back, i am predict zog to do a runner to london hopefully we do a swap with lennon,

Come on lads lets do chelsea over and show players that we mean business.

Why not have an open top bus parade while you are at it!

You may think it negative but in my opinion a Lap of Honour would be totally undeserved based on the season as a whole. That would send the message that very little is good enough for us.

The last two games will be a big test and Toon will do very well to get a draw from either.

Don't actually book a bus until 6 points have been collected from the last two games.

Let's save lavish celebrations for the real thing.

Nice thought Whumpie, but Chelsea weren't on the verge of winning the league against Roeder and Sourness. I bet they have their strongest squad on show and fight like tigers on the strength of KK's revitalised team. It will be a great game if our eleven play the game of their lives, even then it might be a huge ask, but who expected to win 4-1 away to spurs. Here's hoping for at least a point.

First thing love the blogs title lee made me laugh.. I think it will be a very tough game on monday, chelsea have been grinding teams all season and i hope its not gonna be a 1-0 loss. I would love to grab a win even by only a goal. I think we have a shot though, they havent been inspiring at all and dont warrant their position in league and i think there fans know this too. Boring unnatractive football has been there game and maybe with the results we have been getting recently we can beat one of the big guns. Why not?? It would be great to put some more big smiles on the toon faithfull last home game of the season. Good luck fellas.. COME ON THE TOON!!!!

I'll grant you that a "Lap of Honour" is a little over the top, however I think it is more a "Lap of Thanks" to the fans who have supported the lads week after week, even when it was looking pretty grim!! To have over 50,000 show up to support you every game, especially with how badly the season was going December thru February, is pretty special and I think the fans definately DESERVE the thanks of the players!!

HOWAY THE LADS!!!

I agree with Mr Sabastian, a lap of honour for finishing in the top 12 at the least would make a mockery, however is probably likely to happen. Don't get me wrong as a season ticket holder I agree it has been a fantastic end to the season and gives us lot's of hope for the new season but let's save our celebrations. Got a feeling that we will pick up at least a draw against Chelski and end their title dreams! Haway the Toon, and hopefully goodbye to Smith and Zog and sign some real players.
2-2 is my prediction..

The game is important for attracting players to the Toon. The top 4 clubs have established the Prem. as THE league for world class players to play in, which should have a spin off gain for currently lower placed clubs which can appear to players as legitimate contenders. This is a big showcase for NUFC to show that we are potential contenders, and worth joining in the close season. Some of the collapses earlier in the season were hardly good P.R. I think we have much better spirit now. A draw or win would be "champion"! Howay the lads!

An NU team lap of honour would be fitting -- to thank the fans for their commitment and unwavering support. If I were manager, I would insist on it!

No matter who wins the title one thing you can rely on most of the supporters will live in London.

Ryder's reply: I'd second that, mind you as a guest at the FA Cup final last year between Man United and Chelsea I was staggered to hear a Red Devils fan with a cockney accent having the cheek to slam some Chelsea fans for coming from Southend, unreal!

I think the term "lap of honour" is a complete misnomer, surely it is a way the players have of saying thnks to, in our case, the best supporters in the land. It would appear it would be the only way to get Steve Carr to applaud the supporters, he certainly dosnt during the season, ask anyone goes to away games.

I agree with M sebastian. Regardless of the result a lap of honour is not deserved.

I remember finishing 3rd and we treat the team like they had won the league. The next season we were out of the champions league before it started, our players were involved in rape allegations which were proved unfounded and 12 months later Bobby was sacked.

The fans have come in for heavy criticism this year and I think we would do well to remain level headed and not hero worship players every time they put in a good performance.

However I believe KK deserves a lap of honour, he is a really special person who has galvanised the club once again after an awful period. I'm really looking forward to next season and a rocking SJP.

Ryder's reply: KK could be flying high come Sunday night Dexter

This could turn out to be a fab game considering what might be at stake, esp if ManU do NOT beat West Ham. Seems a bit unfair the way all the matches are starting at different times, but Im going for a high scoring entertaining game. We WERE in the doodoo a few games ago, credit where credit is due for KK and his team in turning things around. A Lap of Thanks will be ok, a Lap of Celebration if we beat Chelski will be even better!. Next season will bring renewed optimism yet again, esp if we can keep our big name players and add more quality in defence and midfield.....Haway the Lads

It would be nice to finish the season on a positive note!but lets face it we don't deserve an open bus tour, if anything the fans should be applauded by the players for their loyalty and support over what has been a dire season.

Such is the clamour to appoint Sad allerdick as manager he has is now a pundit on Jeff stellings programme. No doubt some other desperate team will fall for his scientific rantings. With the huge payout he will no doubt have received he could've bought a better suit!
Agree with dexter only KK should be given the lap of honour. what else are we to celebrate...survival? I think more than the toted 4 or 5 players only, are needed in the summer. We still have a lot of injury plagued individuals Owen, Viduka, emre, duff etc. We need cover just for those plus 4 or 5 more. Show us your intent Mr Ashley and splash the cash on some big names, berbatov £30mill, kaka £55m. Realistically we may not get them but lets atleast show our ambition and have a pop for 'em instead of signing surplus requirements from the top 4 or a johnny leftback from sporting doodar. I do trust KK with his targets, never did with most of our previous managers.
As for the chelsea game, havent got any interest who wins the title, would like to screw up fergies plans cos he did ours all those years ago but i dont favour Draculas friend at chelsea either. All i hope for is 3 points, no other teams matter, Toon for life.
