About this blog

Blog on the Tyne is dedicated to bring Toon fans everywhere the most up to date NUFC views, opinions and comment.

The author Lee Ryder, proudly born and bred on Tyneside, has followed the fortunes of the club over the last three decades as a Toon fan and football writer.

From the high octane atmosphere of St James' Park to the Premiership grounds up and down the country and into Europe - this Blog has been there.

But the coverage doesn't stop at first team level.

Blog on the Tyne is also proud to be there to witness the future of the club with regular coverage of Newcastle United's reserve side, as well as all things black and white.

Toon really can give Chelsea the Blues

Posted by Lee on May 4, 2008 5:03 PM |

So now it's pretty straight forward then.

If Newcastle United beat Chelsea at St James's Park - the dream is over for the boys from Stamford Bridge.

Yes the boys from Stamford Bridge who have piled on so much misery on the Toon Army on the majority of trips to Dennis Wise's old club.

Now though the tables could be turned.

That would of course benefit Manchester United who would walk away with the title.

But on the scale of the big picture for Newcastle United, a win would be another small step towards a brighter future.

After a season of utter depression at times for Toon fans, it would nice to think that KK's boys could bow out on a high with a nine game unbeaten run.

As stated before on this Blog, finishing on a high now would lay foundations over the summer and there's work to be done before the lads are packed off for a break.

Indeed both games now carry great significance for both Chelsea and Everton - who now know defeat next weekend leaves their automatic Euro hopes in the balance - and perhaps the black and whites do owe their fans after some severe low points so far.

Other talking points this weekend include the big sum of money that would appear to be on Newcastle's way after Shola Ameobi and Stoke clinched promotion to the top flight.

And the Mackems 2-0 loss at Bolton ensures that Newcastle finish top of the Tees-Wear production that is the North-East Top Dogs trophy.

However, one gets the feeling an open top bus won't be hitting the streets of Tyneside just yet though.

I'm scratching my head but I can't think who were the favourites for this one!

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Any idea if the deal with Stoke for Ameobi is definate? Money aside, does the deal mean that due to their promotion, they definately have to purchase Ameobi from us?

Listen up all Sunderland and Boro’ fans, Newcastle United are involved in the title race on the last week of the season- so put that in your pipes and smoke it.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Sunderland and to a much lesser extent the Smoggies for besting that dreaded trap door- You wouldn’t catch Newcastle United down there- I Jest. I also congratulate Stoke on coming up next season from the Championship- only because I might finally see the back of bloody awful, Strolla Ameobi.

So here we are, the last week of the season, we’ve had misery upon misery, topped off with misery and an extra helping of- well, Misery this season, only for a former player/manager to return and give many a man a reason to be very tearful.

Only Kevin Keegan could have done that.

I couldn’t imagine Des Hamilton or Stephane Guivarch having the same effect could you?

Whatever happens against Chelski, we are all unanimous (aren’t we?) that the only man that could have come in and given us a huge lift, was Kevin Keegan. Not even Alan Shearer would have had the same sense of euphoria- and I’m his biggest fan.

People (Usually the southern based media) always said- ‘Alan’s spectre hangs heavy on any man who takes the job of manager at St James’ Park’ well the one person who could have trumped Alan, was Kevin Keegan. That’s Alan Shearer Newcastle United manager completely wiped off the map for the mid term future. Once again ONLY Kevin Keegan could have done that.

Transfer rumours will be bandied about and no doubt Lee, you will be dedicating a post to that very subject, the second the final whistle blows at Goodison Park next Sunday.

Until then, whatever happens,-

I trust Kevin Keegan.

Paul.

Whatever the repercussions there are for the five clubs(NUFC,ManU,Chelsea, Everton and Villa)involved in our last two games of the season,we,as Newcastle United have to concentrate on our performance and try our damnedest to beat both clubs,to send a message around Tyneside and beyond.
I've got no affection whatsoever for the Stretford lot,but beating Chelsea is a must as far as I'm concerned, given what's gone before in this mainly disappointing season.
We've got something to prove in these last two games, and what happens to other clubs does not and should not come in to it.
KK has already said that his players are going out to make a mark for next season,so lets hope they've taken notice.

I don't think we can beat chelsea today, they have got too much riding on it to just lie down and let it be a foregone conclusion . However i do think we are up for a cracking game and i think it will be close Chelsea arent going to have as much as an easy time over us as they would of if they had played us three/four months back.

keeping an unbeaten run though would be a good end to a season which was going only in one direction in the new year and i like keegans honesty he knew like us all there was a lot of work and he set up this mini league which we had to come top of a little target for the players , fair enough it aint much and bragging rights brings a little sense of pride but its a little something that has been achieved we can now look forward to new signings and next season knowing that we mihgt get some quality players coming in... hopefully ! and the fact that next season the standard of football is going to a lot better than gutless big sams stop them scoring but completely failing tactics

Can keegan ignite the touch paper and emmualate the good old days again ?
