Toon stars train in sweltering conditions in Palma

Newcastle United stars trained in the red hot weather here in Majorca today at the venue in which they will take on Hertha Berlin tomorrow night.

In fact, it was so hot at the ONO Stadium that Kevin Keegan didn't want his players to spend too much time out of the shade.

And a short delay ahead of their 10.30am slot, which eventually took place at 11am, resulted in some players sitting beneath the main stand as Real Mallorca practiced ahead of their opener at the Mallorca Summer Cup against Hannover 96 tomorrow night.

Interestingly Oba Martins sat out of the session and chilled out listening to his iPod by the side of the pitch along with Steve Harper who was nursing a strain.

And while Damien Duff and Habib Beye did train, they sat out of the practice game in which Jonas Gutierrez netted on his old stamping ground before a Nicky Butt screamer tied things up.

Some Toon fans sat in the stands to watch the lads train and the Spanish media were on hand to get a word with Kevin Keegan.

Newcastle fans attending the game tomorrow night are more or less all on the Island and with many of them booked into hotels in the holiday resorts near Palma, they will assemble in Balmorals Pub in Magaluf.

Balmorals is the official meeting point of the United faithful and buses will depart from the pub, ran by Newcastle fans Charmaine and Paco, ahead of the game.

Newcastle train again tomorrow lunchtime for a light session at Real Mallorca's Bibiloni training ground.

But they will be backed in force by the Toon Army against Hertha as they look to give their pre-season a shot in the arm.

Is it just me or is keegan saying hes now after 2 more players when last week he said he wanted 4 more? So 4 minus Bassong should equal 3 more to come in correct? Im starting to get very worried about next season, i think ashley is to scared to back Keegan, just look 10 mile down the road Keane is getting all the backing he needs and is signing players to take Sunderland onto the next level and were simply not, oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Viduka injured AGAIN
Owen injured AGAIN
Barton to be suspended AGAIN
The one class signing of Coloccini called off(whats the betting he signs for Spurs).
Is there anyone looking forward to this season? In all the years of supporting N/cle I have never been so despondent as I am this year. I hate this downbeat approach to the club that MA has imposed. It feels all wrong, and I believe worse is to come. What a way to run a club.

When the farmer can't reap his harvest because it's raining, he doesn't sulk or moan, he services his tractor, fixes the barn, sharpens his tools etc. My shrink told me that once when I was ill after losing mega-money in a stitch-up business deal. The moral being obvious, just get on with what you can in the meantime, but keep taking the pills. I do think though, that Mr. Ashley won't be in the Strawberry very much this season buying beer for the fans, unless he surprises everyone with a stonking last minute shopping spree. In the meantime though, farmer Kevin will be making do, and we'll be needed by him to keep the ship afloat until MA jumps.
