36 years and we're still here!
So Newcastle United go into their opening game of the new term still searching for that first win against Manchester United since 1972!
With the odds as usual stacked against Newcastle, hopes of getting the season off to a good start were dashed long before a ball was kicked and the Premier League fixture computer spluttered out the game all top flight teams wanted to avoid.
That won't stop the Toon fans outsinging those loveable Mancs (and of course the various branches in attendance from Torquay to Toronto) and at least with the two Argentinian boys ready to rock, things before the kick off are at least positive.
The last man to captain United to a success at Old Trafford was Bob Moncur and he'll be the man behind the wheel on the way to Man U as Blog on the Tyne continues the never ending tour - let's hope at least one of his unwanted titles has gone the journey by the time we head back to Tyneside!
With Man U without the likes of Ronaldo and Nani, there are little chinks of light in the game and with Alan Smith still searching for his first goal there are omens to cling on to.
Yes, Newcastle have one finger on the edge of the cliff before a ball has been kicked in Manchester.
But surely the bad run has to end at some point...

Fantastic performance by the lads! Great job, KK. I've never doubted your magic to inspire, your eye for a skilled player, and ability to shape a team. The two Argentinians are terrific signings, and the team looked so much fitter and enthusiastic than under Alladyce.
My only worry is that we are still very thin on quality when injuries inevitably occur. You cannot expect Guttierrez and Collochini to put in 50 performances like that in a season. We need that kind of quality in depth. I would suggest a left-back, another classy centre half, and a Beardsley-style midfielder to set up Martins. A younger big striker would be great too, as Viduka is getting on.
This is my Christmas wish, and I'd like it early. Howay the lads! How-way Mike Ashley, Kev, and the great Toon Army!!!

That official premiership song is a bit like watching Alan Smith, you know he is a proven footballer but you're waiting for him to prove it. The music started like a brash piece of rock, but then....kept promising something without delivering, kind of like a midi-loop that just kept on...er looping, exactly the same. I hope he's not getting money in his hand for that off anyone, like Smudger on 50 grand or whatever for the same nonchalance, without breaking sweat. Anyway, what a great result though 2 points hoyed away in my book. With a bit more belief we could've punished them bigstyle. As usual Mike Riley was dodgey at their place, but could've done us bigstyle also. I sincerely believe that Keegan with Ashley's backing, this month and xmas, will have this club into Europe at the end of this season. Gutierez, Guthrie and Collocini looked inspirational signings though a little raw at times, give em time though and our next ' big ' signings will blow our poor tortured minds. Bollocks I wish I could afford a season ticket this year as next will be shut shop again. Howay the lads....stuff Bolton.
