We've got more than one superhero after this trip!

Posted by Lee on August 3, 2008 8:36 PM |

Jonas Gutierrez may not have been able to star in tonight's clash with his old club Real Mallorca but there were still some Toon superheroes in purple here at the ONO Stadium.

Spiderman had the pick of plenty empty red seats to watch his team-mates and he was caught chatting with Newcastle masseur Micky Holland on Spanish TV.

But we now know that Toon keeper Steve Harper has the new nickname of Batman after his heroics last night at the club's five star hotel.

Yes, after a dip in the pool Harper and his team-mates returned to their digs to discover a bat flying round their room with their base in the mountains.

Several Toon players set off quicker than a pre-season shuttle run!

But safe hands Harps captured the scary creature and let it lose back to where it belongs.

Yet the super heroes don't end there.

James Milner was caught scoffing a post-match banana during his interview to earn him the nickname Bananaman!

It's just so hard to keep pace with these wacky footballers 'innit'. My word, the creativity, the subtlety - the pathos.

It'll be 'Tayls', 'Butty' and 'Smithy' next, just mark my words!

It's just what you'd like your goalkeeper to show: determination, bravery and good reflexes :))
