Keegan in fourth coming?

By Lee Ryder on Sep 2, 08 07:13 PM

A BIZARRE day on Tyneside for Newcastle United fans was concluded (or at least we hope so) with the club releasing a statement claiming they had NOT SACKED Kevin Keegan after a day of speculation the Toon boss had lost his job as manager of the Magpies.

The ambiguous statement still leaves several issues unanswered.

Angry fans had flocked to St James's Park to make their feelings known about the prospect of Keegan leaving the club and there is every chance the reaction may have forced a rethink.

Talk of a boycott for the Hull game and demands for refunds on season tickets are certainly frightening factors while talk that Dennis Wise would take over as boss would have pushed some fans to the limit.

The statemen said: "Newcastle United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.

"Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.

"The Club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.

"Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the Club.

"For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager."

Yet after a day in which Newcastle United's name has again been dragged through the mud with TV channels having a field day in terms of the latest pantomime has left many fans angered, upset and wondering how the club have left themselves in such a vulnerable position.

put it simply..... LONG LIVE THE KING......just not ashley, wise, lambias, vetere, and the other mush...........why is this happening.....all to the detriment of the good name of nufc(if we still have one) and attempts from the media to crush the pride of geordies........IT WONT HAPPEN.....SPECIFICALLY IF KEEGAN IS STILL IN CHARGE...

The fans absolutely have to get behind Keegan and convince him not to walk out. Newcastle need King Kev. We don't need a Dennis Wise side kick in Gus Poyet and never has a person had such a contradictory surname as Dennis Wise.

Ashley, you claim to be totally committed to Newcastle. If this is correct then start acting as if you are. Don't make stupid statement's about "wow" signings if you don't mean it and stop looking like "one of the lad's" and start acting as the serious passsionate businesss man you are.

Newcastle United is not a toy it's a passion. Kevin understands that and relates to the town the players and the media.....in fact everybody it seems apart from the "Management team from the south"

I hope to god he hasn't gone. It doesn't sound too good though.

He told his friends he had been sacked, then Newcastle have said he wasnt.

Seem's like a rethink, but will Keegan buy into the farce?

I wouldnt blame him if he refused to come back - but if this means Keegan gets his way, and Wise is sacked, i will be delighted.

Come on Kev. Show Ashley you are the king, take back control, and take us forward.

I think the gang of three at St James's had their eyes opened when angry fans started arriving outside the ground and protesting.

The statement itself means nothing, We have not sacked Kevin Keegan, didn't mention anything about him still being manager, and until I hear from Kevin I wont believe them. They haven't seen anything yet wait till we really get angry.

No doubt about it, Ashley's advisers have given him a royal roasting. I say advisers because it's become publicly apparent that despite his wealth, he's not the brightest of people. His well documented gambling may even have brought his money, he couped a billion in one throw of a dice, maybe he was lucky with his other billion, maybe his advisers do all the work while he plays lager lout. One thing's for certain, he's just lost the faith of every toon supporter in one throw of the dice. His black and white shirt, beer-swilling pantomime has ended drastically. How will any of the nation's onlookers take him seriously after the last 3 days in which he blatantly abused the law, his manager and his bread and butter fans? Even if Kevin stays for the fans sake only, his credibility is in tatters and his goons are in an untennable position, really. I can see the old chant of, '' He's a dwarf, a dwarf...'' breaking out unanimously if Wise ever shows his face at St. James' again. No-one knows what Jiminez looks like I reckon, so he might sneak in with the chairman. Honestly speaking, Ashley needs to sell up quickly and fade back into obscurity from whence he came. I don't believe he was ever a shy, private person as was said of him prior to this job, cos he's revelled in the publicity since day one. Please Kevin, don't let them hound you out again. We know that they will leave soon, but we will support you all of the time you are here. Even if you do have to go, just bear with us till we get rid of them, get new owners, then come back. But say it publicly that you'll be waiting for the day. That'll shove it right up the plonkers.

What a bizarre turn of events. The transfer deadline came and went with us being mentioned with the same players at 8am to the same we ended up signing later. I did kind of hope we would be after a huunterlar but no just schitzo.

So after the somewhat quiet transfer day (for us anyway) we dominate sky sports news with yet more disappointing headlines. we've been kept in the dark since ashley took over and today has been no different. If there isnt any problem a simple statement from kk and the board stating the rumours were rubbish would have prevented all this mess. is he manager or isnt he, irrespective of what the club website says, I will only believe the keegan. Whats strange is there has been no official comment from himself - thats the worrying part!

Whether Keegan stays or goes, the question remains: How on earth have NUFC let yet another transfer window close without more signings? Jonas was a great buy, and I think the rest will work out, but is there anyone who follows the premiership and doesn't realize that NUFC have very little to go on? Losing Milner should have inspired the ownership to open the financial floodgates, and yet here we are. It's hard to be a NUFC supporter these last few years. Just when you think the future looks a little brighter, the dark clouds of mismanagement roll in.

I'm surprised how Mike Ashley can sit together with the fans and yet fail to understand what the club means to the city and KK to Newcastle.

Is he dumb or what? He should have seen this earlier if he decided not to back KK.

This is the biggest PR own goal since Neville Chamberlain stepped off the plane and waved that piece of paper.

Big Mike - You've got about as much chance of securing peace in our time as that plumb did. You might have your piece of paper that tells you NUFC belongs to you but don't believe this for a minute.

Never ever forget the fans own NUFC and our representative on this earth is one Kevin Keegan.

(Well said Ronnie Lambert by the way - word for word my sentiment).

Having known people who know Mike Ashley very well indeed I can tell you for nothing Mike Ashley might be many things, but dumb he is not. He is very much a self-made man and very sharp. Having said that, he is also nothing if not ruthless when it comes to business.

I don't know what happened yesterday but it seems likely that KK was promised quality new players by the 3 (not-so) wise men of Ventre Jimenez and Wise which then failed to appear. I also suspect the proposed sale of Barton, together with the on-going non-committal approach to Owen, especially after Milner was affectively allowed to walk out - all of this must have told KK that he has basically been used by Ashley as a figurehead and little else. He doesn't have any real power at the club, and he has rightly found that unacceptable.

While the board probably didn't sack him (purely out of PR sense) I'll wager they made it pretty clear who was in charge and left KK with little option but to go - knowing full well he would not stay on principle. Then came the backlash (which contrary to popular belief I reckon they would have anticipated)

How on Earth KK can even consider coming back now is beyond me. How could it work now he has realised that he is being taken for a ride? And by the way, that's what it is. Ashley, taking us all for a ride.

In thefirst issue of the Newcastle United magazine there is an interview with Ashley. One of the questions regards his "vision for the club" (page 18). His answer is "More than anything, I would really love to mirror the Arsenal model".
Well Mr. Ashley, I have a question for you... Does Arsene Wenger have a Director of football telling him who to buy? Does the Board at Arsenal sell players without telling Wenger? What plans have you put in place at the academy to "develop players that feed directly into the first team"?

This latest shambles would seem to suggest you are either insensitive to the fans of this club, naiive as to what Newcastle United is all about, or just incredibly arrogant in ignoring the emotions of the people who love this club.

CASHLEY (HUH DONT MAKE ME LAUGH) MAY OWN THE CLUB BUT WE ALL KNOW ITS KK'S CLUB. YOU CAN OWN SOMETHING FINANCIALLY BUT IT NEVER COMPARES WHEN YOU OWN WITH LOVE AND PASSION. KK MUST HAVE MADE A BOB OR TOO ALONG WITH SHEARER AND COUNTLESS AMOUNT OF EX STAR'S OF THE TOON WHO ALWAYS PROFESS TO ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE IN THIER HEART FOR THE TOON THEN WHY NOT COME TOGETHER A S A CONSORTIUM WITH YOUR FUNDS FROM PLAYING AND SPONSERSHIP DEALS AND TAKE OVER WHAT A DREAM THAT WOULD BE A CONSORTIUM OF KK. TERRY MAC. BIG AL, CLARKY, PETER "RUNS LIKE A CHEETER" BEARDSLEY, AND GAZZA SIR LES. NEVER MIND YOUR ARABS WHAT A BOARD THAT WOULD BE REAL FOOTBALL MEN KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT IT TAKES TO RUN A CLUB LIKE THE TOON. OH AND EVEN JOHN BARNES WHEN HE COMES BACK FROM HIS CHARITY TOP RUN.
