A welcome point gained in typical Newcastle United style at Everton

By Lee Ryder on Oct 5, 08 07:51 PM

Newcastle United's poor run of form finally ended on Merseyside following a spirited display against Everton.

The point will be gratefully accepted by Joe Kinnear who missed both of the goals getting down to the dressing room and on the way back for the second half with Steven Taylor and Damien Duff netting either side of the break.

However, it was the spirit that would have assured the travelling Toon Army the most after fighting back from 2-0 down to grab a draw.

United almost won it late on when sub Shola Ameobi weaved through and unselfishly laid the ball off for Charles N'Zogbia but Leighton Baines saved the day for the home side.

In the end Toon player partied on the pitch as if they'd won it.

But this was more a sign of relief than anything else.

So, no defeat to stew over for the next few weeks and a home game with Man City to look forward to next.

Hardly normal service but certainly something to build on.

Go on, have a slight smile but don't forget United are still in a relegation battle.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Hi Lee,

It made my day to see the lads come back after being 2-0 down and we were by far the better team and if shola had more confidence he should of slotted that chance.

We played as a team and we again gave away 2 goals but i would of taken a draw at the start and we have a break now and as you said we can relax until Man City come to town...

Now i can watch england next week and still surprised that MO not even in the squad...

I hope to hear you and the legend Alan Oliver are upbeat tommorow on your TV special.

Please let Alan Oliver know that i am no longer the ice cream man at Ben & Jerrys in washington, dc.

A great result and one that most of us would have happily taken before kick-off. In the end it was ashame we didnt get the win as I think overall we deserved it, but will take a point, moved up one position in the league and it made a refreshing change to see the team fight for the result.

Well done Joe, think your midweek rant was spot on and hopefully that result will be the start of things to come. The best way to shut the press up is to give them nothing to write about, keep getting the results and they will soon be writing lies about Ramos instead!!

A home win against City next will do very nicely thanks!

Very tempted to turn off tv once toon went
2-0 down, but i just could not do it.
I am very pleased i stayed with it ,as it
was good to see plenty of fighting spirit,
& some of this is rubbing off from JK.
Watched motd2 last night& BBC made it look as though Everton were all over us , why
cant they show a fair reflection of games.

It was a much improved performance, and the first sign of a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.
Guthrie was outstanding in midfield, and I was really impressed with Coloccini at the back.
Like they say, form is temporary but class is permanent-waved.

I think that most of us now are not only "giving Joe chance" but actually warming to a bloke who uses the platform he has to tell the gutter press where they can go.
I was in stitches when he sneaked out from the tunnel behind the fourth official to shout his instructions to the bench only to be sent back to the naughty chair by the big polis!
Good show by the team and one that would have easily done Blackburn and possibly Hull.
Mr Kinnear seems to be having an effect so its Top of the Morning to him.
One final observation, is that useless excuse for a manager ever going to stop bleating about his tough time at the hands of us ruthless NUFC fans. Even our lass was on the point of effing and blinding at Souness yesterday. How many failed managers have left us and gone to do good things with their careers at other clubs?
Howay the lads!!!

Joe has to be given full credit for the way our boys stuck at it, it’s more than refreshing to see the lads fighting for each other. Now let’s get behind the team and start moving up the table.

A fair summation Lee.
A result, I and most Mags, would have taken if offered. But more important we actually played well - partic 2nd half - and we saw performances from certain players - Guthrie, Duff, Colo, Cacapa, Taylor and Zog (MoM) - which bodes well for the future.

OK there was some poor play/marking - especially for the 2nd goal - but I am very cheered up by spirit and battling shown yesterday.

Lee - was the substitution of Enrique tactical/injury?

Haway the Toon.

Soooo pleased for Mighty Young Joe, where has he been all our lives since Keegan left the first time. We could've had hime instead of Dalglish, Gullit Souness and Allardyce. I really do have a feeling that this little bundle of dynamite will pull it off. The fans and team love him, so do most of the media, and I suspect even Simon Bird.
What a shame there's no game on Saturday, oh well, he'll have shaped Shola into Fash the bash by the time city come. Rock on Joe lad, we don't hate any cockneys, just the clowns who got us into this mess.

I agree with Mr Robert Wilson motd2 was a disgrace, made us look like it was backs to the wall for the whole game, which it wasn't. But hey they have been doing that to us for years! I hope Kinnear can lift the players and get another result in a couple of weeks. I hope all the Toon Army get behind the manager after the amount of grief he has been getting in the press, it would be nice for us to get behind the manager and show the national papers where they can stick there southern biased rubbish.

Hi Lee:

It's just too bad, we really should have won that game 2-3 -- it would have given us a tremendous boost.

On Michael Owen! certainly he has scored a few goals this season, but his goals were meaningless because the pressue was off and we were already well beaten when he got them -- if he wanted Cappello to notice him, Sunday afternoon would have been his time to shine!!! Come Owen........step up!

Wordannyman!

I believe that the manager only planned to play Enrique for around 50-60 minutes but felt he was struggling still with the hamstring problem again.
Judging by Enrique's quizzical expression as he headed for the tunnel, he didn't agree.

Hi Lee-great result for the lads -Butty must stop his silly tackling in the box -he has given away two penalties doing that this season-He must know by now refs are not going to let him away with it-still I understand his desire -but he needs to think how needless it can be. My man of the match was Danny Guthrie -he never stopped running and looked the best midfielder on the pitch-shame he hardly gets a mention in the press- He has to be followed closely though by Steven Taylor who played more like the player we know he can be -even though he had to play out of position. Well done the lads and well done Joe -He needs to know we dont hate all cockneys -just the 4 useless tossers who made a mess of our club. Welcome to Tyneside Joe -keep up the good work.

Shocking first half but what a turn around - actually played some decent stuff too. Not quite what I was expecting to be honest but very pleased.

Let's see if we can get a good result against City but I think they'll have too much for us. And classic NUFC would be to waste all the good work from Everton.

brill performance after they went 1 ahead i fort given, taylor, bassong, guthrie, duff and especially nzogbia wer outstanding we've finally got a midfielder who can controll the rythmn of play in guthrie and if charlie can lok up a bit more he could be as good as giggs once was. owen didnt get the chance that would have given us 3 points but his overall performance was good and i also fort ameobi looked like a player again his touch looks like its coming back and im backin him 2 score the winner against city.
