International break has given JK crucial time to settle in
If Joe Kinnear's emergence on the St James's Park scene was a complete bolt from the blue and his explosive media briefing that shortly followed thrust more chaos into Newcastle United then perhaps you can't blame people for reflecting on somewhat of a dull weekend by black and white standards.
Big Joe had eight players away on national duty but and still has another six days to keep the pot bubbling ahead of the visit of Man City.
Kinnear spent the weekend keeping tabs on things on the football globe and so far it has been a case of so good with no injuries to report.
In some ways it is almost like Kinnear has been given a mini pre-season to get to know the players that have been left behind.
However, it won't be a mini pre-season in which players arrive at Newcastle.
He confirmed today that he would not be taking advantage of the free transfer list provided by FIFA which details all of the out of contract players.
Whether that suggests there isn't even cash available to him for player wages will only be known down the corridors of SJP.
But Newcastle's Mr Motivator has already asked for the only currency he is judged on to be results.
If the players are listening to everything he is telling them, it might just turn out nice against Manchester City.
And we all know what happens the week after that.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Reading this and today's Chronicle paints the picture that everything is looking up and the storms have passed. But they have not-the club is still a complete shambles, the squad is wafer thin and Kinnear is still widely viewed as a joke appointment.
No one can blame Kinnear for taking the job becuase it's a good opportunity for him, but in reality, he is out of his depth. Yes he might steady the ship, but he cannot be in it for the long term.
Thousands of empty seats in forthcoming week-night home matches will confirm that 'The Geordie Nation' (a phrase used in at least 50% of your articles) has been completely turned off by recent events.
Hi Lee-I cant agree with some fans still sniping at Joe- the bloke has come with the best intentions and is trying his level best to get some ponts in the bag-yes we all love the bones of Kevin and yes we all hate Ashley,Wise,Llambias and co. -but none of this is Joes fault -he has come to do a job that nobody else wanted to do and if the Everton game was anything to go by -he is not doing a bad job-lets give him time and lets give him and the team a taste of the toon roar-he and the lads deserve nothing less than the toon army support -after all we claim to be the best supporters in the world -lets show everybody next Monday -thats what we are.
I think Joe Kinnear accurately reflects the current NUFC managements thinking on football.
