Kinnear hits back after national media storm
Newcastle United fans know all about getting a kicking by the national Press and after just six days in the job Joe Kinnear has already had a taste of it.
Big Joe has admitted he might not be here for longer than five minutes, he's admitted that he wasn't the public's choice and he has admitted he's been out of the game for a number of years.
But none of that has prevented pile of stick coming his way.
Today some of that came to a head a the training ground.
Kinnear said: "On the pitch things have been very good - but off it I would say not so good.
"I am very disappointed by the negativity.
"It's all an attempt to make sure I get off on a bad foot.
"I can't come to terms with it.
"It's bad publicity but I had that at Wimbledon and now it has carried through.
"At the end of the day you have to win football matches and this will go on until we get a win."
Kinnear also revealed he has consulted his top stars in order to lead Newcastle away from the danger zone.
He added: "Confidence is a big part of football so in terms of the mistakes we have made, we have had to bring them out early.
"We have discussed the goals we gave away and I have asked for feedback from people like Michael Owen, Nicky Butt and Shay Given.
"You have to talk to you senior pros.
"We need to do things better and stop the basic errors.
"Sadly every time we have made a basic error it has led to a goal."
Kinnear accepted he will just have to box on through the club's injury crisis too yet says there could be light at the end of the tunnel after the trip to Everton.
He said: "Mark Viduka is out for six weeks and Alan Smith will be out for three months.
"But I am meeting Jonas Gutierrez today and I hear he could be back in time for Man City on October 20.
"We could have a different team after the international break."
And speaking on the dreaded relegation word, Kinnear said ahead of the trip to Goodison Park: "I hate using the word relegation at a big club like Newcastle United.
"But we have to face facts.
"We are fighting relegation at the moment.
"But I did that for 10 years at Wimbledon and have a lot of experience."

Is Joe slightly mad?????
One day he says NUFC are in "no danger whatsoever" of being relegated and then a couple of days latter ""We are fighting relegation at the moment."
I truly don't think many people in this universe could have scripted this shambles - in fact no word in the English language does it justice.
"Black September" could easily get a whole lot...er..blacker.
Hi Lee,
I'm tired, dog tired. Like every other Ex Pat Geordie on the planet I'm tired of opening a newspaper and reading comments like 'TOON SINKING WITHOUT A TRACE'. To some eyes this might indeed be so. True, Newcastle a club with a proud and fabled history is down on it's uppers at the moment. Most football junkies know only too well however that a couple of wins or even a single point can change the face of the tables.
I've been in Canada for 38 years. Out of touch with football for most of that time I found myself at a complete loss. Joe Kinnear?.......who's that? I honestly had not heard of Mr Kinnear until, well, shall we say recently.
Whoever the man is. Whatever he has or has not done. He certainly seems willing to work with the team. To at least give the team a chance to prove the critics wrong.Professionals they may be but can they be immune to the current club atmosphere? I don't think so, I mean it has obviously affected them.
Geordies have always had big hearts when it counts. Geordies are no stranger's to the phrase "C'mon, give the lad a chance".
So, "C'mon, give the lad a chance". I know nothing of Joe Kinnear, but at least he deserves that much. He is walking into a club that is up for sale. To a club where a storied manager quit, then returned as a Messiah.......then quit again. Will he quit again?....Hmm, I wonder. Will the new owners take that chance?........fools if they do.
No, Joe deserves to walk into the next game with the Geordie contingent four square behind him. Who knows, he might get the 15 points he wants, and more. Give the lad a chance.
I have a funny feeling this guy will actually do a very good job,and if he does he deserves the job permanently.I can see him cutting out the costly defensive errors.
Joe kinnear is growing on me more and more each day. He seems like a genuine guy who has great respect for the club. He has a good sense of humour and seems very honest. I have a little incling this guy might be able to get us back to top form. Because if we can all agree kk was not the best tacticion BUT an incredible motivator. And i think joe is of similar qualities. All we need is confidence and a lift (and gutierez back) and i can honestly see us getting back to the standards we were playing against Man utd. Watch this space one feels.... Come on the toon....
couldn't agree more with brian whitfield...give kinnear a go ..i don,t think united should entertain bringing back k.k. he was a legend on the tyne but his time has come and sadly now gone...move on newcastle move on to better days hopefully and maybe just maybe kinnear can be a saviour
I will certainly give Joe kinnear a try, after all we have a proper manager in helm doesn't matter big name or not. Chris was clueless when in charge of the team, no confident, no creativity and no concentration. I here pray for you Joe, do your best for our team, hit the 15 points target maybe more. Howays the lad.
Totally agree with the above, except for the pedant. I've always liked JK, and his crazy gang. They stuffed us out of the cup circa '86/7 at ours, and always proved a hard nut to crack away. People criticised his style of play, but you can only work with what you've got. He's got much better players here, with senior players to come back from injury, so I sincerely hope he can do a good job and be retained in some capacity when the club changes hands.
I just listened to the Joe Kinnear 'live' interview twice. I've got to say even as a Boro fan, and the fact that I would love to take this opportunity to take the mick (excuse the pun) out of the ‘biggest club in the North, I really find it hard. Mainly because Kinnear came across as a man who spoke his mind, a man who is going to give his all to the club, somebody who was willing to take on the press, not be bullied by the National (Southern) press who can't understand that the local press are more trusted than they could ever be. All that he did was speak his mind and put them on the rack over their integrity. I can, and will, write anything I wish, nobody can control that, but ultimately I need the copy I read in the tabloids to be the feelings of a man who is professing his thoughts, not somebody who has been hounded into such a corner that he has says something that he may well regret in the mornig.
As I conclude this rant, I would like to point out that I could have included a certain '52 swear words' (http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/10/02/audio-joe-kinnear-swears-an-amazing-52-times-in-a-five-minute-rant-at-the-daily-mirror-115875-20767990/?ppc=true&campaign=dm+google+photo&gclid=CKfcpajjjpYCFQHilAoduBkAE)
to get my point across, but I would seem slightly over the top.
