Owen injury is typical of Newcastle United's bad luck

By Lee Ryder on Oct 16, 08 01:42 PM

Joe Kinnear must have walked under a dozen ladders on his way to training yesterday following the latest blow to his stint in charge of Newcastle United.

Kinnear has barely been on Tyneside three weeks but in that time he's endured a tough time with the national media, a skeleton in the cupboard in the shape of an FA ban picked up at Forest and now an injury to his best player who wasn't even on international duty.

The news that Owen will miss seven to 10 days is a massive blow to Kinnear, for not only will he miss the clash with Man City on Monday, the Tyne-Wear derby is also looking like a bit of a no-no.

Owen had similar problems last season and missed a large chunk of the campaign.

And sadly for him and the fans, the striker can't seem to get a run going without being hit with injuries.

For Kinnear, things were starting to look up with the return of Jonas, Oba Martins and Habib Beye boosting the squad.

It could have been worse had Owen been ruled out for a month as first feared but just when United need their skipper more than ever, his up and down United career hit another slump.

Lee, Although Toon don't want Owen to ever be injured I don't think they are any worse off than most other prem teams. He is an aging player and doing without him for about 25% of games is what to expect. What will help is that his England days are over and at least he will not get injured except on behalf of his club.

The one that would really hurt would be if Given got a serious injury because he has effectively been half the team so far.

I'm not sure how you consider Owen being injured as bad luck. I would define bad luck as an unexpected random event!

I would suggest you check out his injury record for the last 5 seasons - there is nothing unexpected or random about MO being injured.

He just happens to have had a lot of bad luck, it's bad luck for Newcastle because if you check his goal record, when he plays he usually scores

I don't think it's walking under ladders that's caused the problem for Joe, perhaps he been aiming kicks at too many "Black Cats" leading up to the Derby.............
