Newcastle United 1 Manchester Utd 2
NEWCASTLE United put on a tremendous display for the Toon Army against Manchester United, but ultimately it was all in vain.
The Premier League and European champions were given a big scare after Peter Lovenkrands put NUFC 1-0 up, but Rooney and Berbatov eventually rescued three points for the Red Devils.
Blog on the Tyne was at the match to bring you regular updates from the game.

Why do Newcastle United just disappoint on so many levels?
So wot we got beat off Man U, but why do they only 'up their game' against Top 4 teams?
There's a slight expectancy to get beaten by those teams yet the team goes all out to play well n even carve out a draw... YET... gets beaten soundly by teams deemed lower in stature on a regular basis or give away a lead n end with a draw.
If last nights performance was a regular thing, I'd be assured we'd be sniffing around the UEFA cup position every season and attracting better talent.
If Championship footy is wot is in store for the team next season I can only hope those that didn't do their job this season would stay around to do the job next season (tho u so know they wouldn't)
Nevermind eh? Maybe they might win a cup next season.. THE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP
Agree with Bob - where was this kind of performance against Bolton (or Wigan home & away, or Fulham etc etc)
Chris Hughton says we need to produce this form for the next 10 games to have a chance, but those of us who have watched the Black & Whites for any length of time will know that there's no way they'll go to Hull and play like that
I'm sick to death of seeing players earning huge amounts of money gifting goals to the opposition week after week
Even if we do play like that every week, we're still going down - what will happen to the management's 5 year plan if that happens?
Baynet..Ashleys 5 year plan is based on selling 44000 season tickets yearly. If he is budgeting those sort of figures, then it is obvious he has not heeded or understood anything that has gone on these past months.
Now, when we are being told Xsico was a Keegan signing,I believe this is a start to blame Keegan for eveything, then only give him his payout if a very strong confidentially agreement is included, so that his side of the story is never heard.
Ashley doesn't have a five year plan baring make sure as little is spent on the first team as possible.
We do not have the quality to break down teams, we do not have a manager, we are prone to gift a team a goal or two per game. We are 50/50 to go down.
Keegan's story for the 'first' walkout still hasn't been published, but it 'wasn't' him to blame, as many KK bashers like to think. It was another knife in the back by his 'superiors' that left him no other option but to walk. Why walk? Because he's not the kind of man to suck and pick up his wages...he's bigger than that. Anyway, last night was a great 'match' to watch, especially for all the Londoners I heard blabbing outside the ground. But it angers me to see that degree of application against the mancs and not Bolton or Hull etc. Their first goal and Oba's miss were cruel.
Could someone at NUFC please tell me the purpose of the stewards and police at SJP???
Sitting directly below the away section, we were spat on and verbally abused by the away supporters on Wednesday night throughout the whole of the game. Stewards shrugged their shoulders and suggested we moved to another part of the ground.
Why can't the front three or four rows of the away section be left empty, and only occupied by stewards. Well, we all know why, because the club would then lose valuable income by having these empty seats. Better to have this cash than look after your own supporters. The only activity by the stewards in the second half was to remove the flags covering the advertising hordings. We don't want to upset our sponsers now, do we??!!
Hi
Everyone is going on about us being the first team to stick a goal past Man Utd in over 21 hours. Everyone seems to forget Santa Cruz scored for Blackburn in a 2-1 defeat a couple of weeks ago.
Kevin
It was the first goal conceded by Edwin van Der Saar in over 21 hours. He wasn't playing against Blackburn.
Well done Manchester!
they played quite well, i was pleasantly surprised :) Man U is balling too hard though
