Blog on the Tyne at the Reebok Stadium

By Lee Ryder on Mar 1, 09 09:00 AM

Bolton substitute Ricardo Gardner took just 80 seconds to defeat Steve Harper at the Reebok Stadium in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Despite a battling performance from the relegation-haunted Magpies, sadly it was nowhere near enough to see off Bolton in a result that leaves United fans deeply disillusioned.

Blog on the Tyne was at the Reebok to bring you regular updates from Newcastle United's clash with Bolton Wanderers.

When kevin left, houghton was not up to the mark .Now with kinnear gone ,not that he was much good, he still is not good enough. Ashley will regret his miserly actions regarding the recruitment of good coaches.

Ashley has got to swallow his pride and get KEEGAN back, if he does not Newcastle United
will be go down

Worried Fan said:

Well after watching that its clear that the team dont have any tactics what-so-ever.

Keegan? why not, things cant get worse and if ashley doesnt rectify it asap then he will lose the club and any worthwhile assets that go with it, we are a club that wont come back up for years and years-if ever.

IF WE DONT BRING IN SOMEBODY NOW-WE WILL GO DOWN.

newcastle a big team? we will be next year in the championship!

nevermind survival, this squad would struggle in the championship week in week out.
we have to be careful what we wish for, as in wanting someone to come in, it won't happen, we dont want get someone in then be lumbered with someone who in the long term is not gonna improve us, the thought of kinnear coming back fills me with dread, mark my words even if kinnear was fit and well, the forth coming games would still have the same outcome as todays did.
you can bet hull dont win again until they play us, and BEAT US.
Arsenal struggling for goals will fill their boots when they play us.
i am sick of hearing we have enough quality to see us thru, thats just what we have not got, or we would not be in this postion to start with.
Stoke will simply out muscle this bunch of light weights with no heart for a battle.
we were a disgrace today yet again, sometimes we have to take whats coming to move forward.
i for one just hope we dont fetch someone in and whatever out final outcome is come may, we have to hope ashley sees the light and goes all out for steve bruce and sweeps his brush over the rubbish he has brought in.

Why on earth do the management persit on playing Ameobi. He has no heart or appetite to play for Newcastle United. Why does it take a nearly full capacity crowd,s reaction to make the the management make a change? Against Everton it took the bewilderment cries of the crowd to tell the coaching staff to get rid of Ameobi and bring on Martins. Yet, they still persevere with Ameobi.
Today we are getting beat 1-0. Nothing is happening to change the fact we are going to get beat 1-0. Yet they still fail to change anything to help our cause. Mr Ashley....Please open youre eyes. If your in this for the money then what you are doing is commiting suicide. Relative success in the Championship is not going to make you the same revenue as in the Premiership. Sort the coaching side out and maybe you have a chance to survive.

Michael said:

Totally agree with Gordon. Only the management seem to rate Ameobi. Everyone else thinks he is a useless lump that will never be a footballer as long as he lives. He's a yard behind in thought & two yards behind the pace. Viduka is lazy, but at least when he has the ball he retains it & brings other players into the game. Why didn't Smith replace Butt, or more to the point, start the game. We were out-fought early on & R.Taylor obviously isn't used to playing in the centre of midfield.
Forget the calls for Keegan. You're living in the past if you think he'll make a difference. It's touch & go whether or not we stay up, but in any event, Kinnear, Hughton & Calderwood are not the way forward. Ship them out at the end of the season & build from afresh.
Let's hope it's not a cricket score on Wednesday & also hope that we scramble enough points between now & the end of May. Anything else is unthinkable.

not seen the game but the score line is not a surprize, only in the fact we really, really did have to win.. if SA was played again then we got what we deserved or the coaches did anyway.. playing him has made every manager in the last 5yrs look clueless pretty much like Bumble a couple of seasons ago. not everyone can play in front of the toon army but that doesn't mean he won't do well somewhere else.. only KK tried to get rid of him. even if we are short sadly we're better off without him... whats wrong with MV + OM or AC + OM?

Forbsey said:

Lee Alan Oliver John Gibson..........if you do not slate Ameobi in the reports i have come to the conclusion you no nowt about football..........did you watch that 90 mins today it was a disgrace and no doubt he will get a 6 or 7 come on lads get a grip we are in BIG TROUBLE

Hughton and Calderwood are like amateurs. The team again started with no shape whatsoever. They don't seem to learn. Shola was dreadful. I'd sooner have seen Carroll up front - at least he feels he has something to play for even if I think he's overrated by some desperate fans.

Ryan Taylor is a reserve player who has a good free kick. That's all. If Smith's fit for the bench, he should've stated alongside Butt. Confounding all expectations, Geremi was pretty good when he came on. Jonas had a good second half. Martins should've scored and didn't contribute an awful lot. Is he fit? Enrique had another pretty good game, as did Bassong, except for laying hands on opponents, Can't he learn from Taylor?

Don't worry, another unchallenged BIG story about Lambiass or whoever and the promise of better things in the future and the Geordie faithful will have forgotten all about this farce. Maybe when we go down, you can start to ask some questions.

M. Sebastian T. said:

Watching Toon today there is still some fight in the players but the attack is completely toothless. Bolton were little better but that counts for nout now.

Seeing the Hull result it is clear that it will all hinge on two matches involving Hull, Boro and Toon. Is getting harder and harder to guess which will be the unlucky ones, because at some point Hull will get their rub of the green as Boro did yesterday. Possibly two of the three are going down. It cannot be all three because of WBA.

M. Sebastian T. said:

Well it is good that there is WBA!

It will come down to the games with Hull and Boro because two from them and Toon may well go down. Stoke and Samburn are the ones in the mire showing most courage to get out of it.

James 09 said:

Lee - I know the "it's my job" mantra, and with respect - but if you really cared for NUFC why on this planet would you even consider interviewing Lambias or anyone else from the "You couldn't make this up" crew??

Where the heck are we going to get 8 never mind 12 points from (and that may not even be enough to survive) - I just cannot see us surviving with results going against us yet again.

We're going down and we'll stay down too.

H. said:

Hughton looked like a rabbit caght in headlights when interviewed. His decision making before and during the game was even worse. Perhaps however Mr Ashley is craftier than we give him credit for and actually wants to be a BIG fish in a small pond - ie the Championship - if so, he is going about it the right way. Ashley to Ashes. The Toon is doon.

Mal said:

As usual all the pre match comments from players were not reflected in their performances on the pitch. We were completely devoid of ideas and Hughton's interview at the end makes you wonder if he thinks fans are stupid.
I think we have now to think the unthinkable - we are probably going down as we will probably win only 1 more home game (if that) and we seem incapable of doing anything away from home (we can't play the bottom of the league every week).
The substitutions today were baffling to say the least - Ameobi and Viduka up front. You're having a laugh.

For the first time in all our premiership seasons, i feel afraid that this year, we will drop, i cannot see where the points are coming from, the board and managemen are a joke, agree with another poster, Lambiass will trot some crap story out, we are going to sign big, in the championship maybe, 1m or 2m, these guys are a joke, setanta's craig burley said it all, joe kinnear managing from home, its a joke, isn't it. The club talk about this so called plan to progress the club, what with with kinnear as the lead, give me a break, and the other two idiots, they all need shipping, this calderwood was sacked by notts forest, as he was useless, but ashley deems him good enough to lead the side to safety with houghton.
Lambiass stated, they wanted KK to say, mike told them, well obviously you didn't try that hard to keep him, so what's the difference in giving kinnear control of signings, why didn't they do that for kevin keegan, or is it simply, kinnear is a yes man, puppet on a string.
End of March league position, any tips, maybe 18/19th maybe

I will NEVER watch another newcastle match when Ameobi is in the starting lineup!!

Bolton vs Mags
So this was them "doing it for Joe" was it? At this rate JFK will be back in his hospital bed! But of course, we were playing top opposotion in the perennial table-topping, champions league winners Bolton weren't we? (that's a joke by the way, and so are we!)If this is Ashley & LLambias' vision of the future then they seriously need to talk to someone preferrably in the comfort and security of a padded cell! I think LLambias made a kind of spoonerism when he mentioned the champions league in 5 years, he obviously meant the championSHIP!

Ashley entrusted the running of his "toy" to friends and friends of friends whereas he should have employed proven professional people to run NUFC.

He has only succeeded in ruining his investment and alienating the majority of the fanbase against himself and his clueless mediocre regime of puppets.

Bill said:

I agree with alot of the comments about Shola. He is unfortunately the only striker fit enough to play 90 minutes. Smith, Viduka, Martins are still not able and Owens is still at least one week from playing, never mind starting. Carroll is another who can't be considered fit enough to statrt. Loverkrands will have to play midfield for the near future.

As regards Bolton I am down about the result but the performance has frightened me. A really poor team such as Bolton beat us from one of three chances by a player who only did one decent act in 45 minutes.

With eleven games left - five agst top 5 teams(!) - we MUST beat Hull and Stoke away, and from Fulham, Pompey and Boro at least 6 points. But on yesterdays evidence I am really worried that we haven't got the testicles for it. I hope we get another 12 points from these five games - no points agst the spuds - despite the fact we only have 28 points from 27 games.

I fear the worst.

Wouldn't it be nice for a change to see someone in charge of our club come out after such a pathetic performance and say, "Actually we were awful today, that kind of lame performance is unacceptable and everyone at the club needs to take some responsibility on themselves. If we keep playing like that we will be relegated."

Instead, week after week, we get: "I thought we fought hard, we had the better chances and should have had a penalty, we deserved at least something from the game."

Absolute disgrace, I'd give my right arm to pull on that shirt and show them what hard work and passion is. How can a player be low on confidence knowing that 50 grand a week going to him no matter how he plays!?

I am really hurting. I have cheered for Newcastle to the far I can remember but I have never been hurt by the club as much as I am hurting now.
Getting rid of players like James Milner and signing new contracts with players like Ameobi just proves to me what the plans for Newcastle are.

I am not in Newcastle, but will someone for the love of god do something there. We have players that can play well but all we need is a good couach. Kevin Keegan cured the team last year by putting up 3 strikers up front which was the solution.

I really hope and pray newcastle dont go down this season.

I am really speechless and sad especially by looking at the upcomming fixtures with the big 4.

BobbyTee said:

David Kelly - wouldnt it be nice to even hear the Chronicle come out and say that the perfomance was pathetic and awful???
All the while the sycophants are patting Llambias & co on the back - why should anyone at the club own up about the disgraceful performances and discipline?
the rot starts at the top - and was exasperated by JFK's disgraceful four-lettered rant at the press and all the way through to Coleen Nolans dreadful foul last week. Poor discipline and apologists for sub-standard behaviour and performances.
Someone please take responsibility - the Club, the Chronicle, the Players - dont fiddle while rome burns.

I hate saying it but going down now looks ineviable. Wherare`the next points coming from? I admire those who will go and support the team against Man U, I'm just wondering what sort of cricket score they'll run up. I am sick to the stomach of the position we're in and the club's outlook. Before the Bolton game the word was "building on our two game undefeated run" Are they having a laugh? Two games? I ask you waht sort of achievement is that? Week in week out the players have said they let the fans down. Week in week out they say we'll make it up for them. Well I've had enough I'l always be doown when we get beat, but it happens all to often with no sunshine on the horizon. Maybe we will do well in the championship nest season, get some good young blood in who want to do well and not just pick up the pay packet at the end of the week. Newcastle United - RIP>

Who are the idiots at NUFC who think Ameobi is a better striker than Viduka? Whoever they are they plainly no nowt about football. Shola is a joke & will never be a footballer as long as I've got a hole in my a***!
Four wins still needed but luckily we still have 5/6 games we can win although on yesterdays performance we couldn't beat an egg!
Oh & wrap up with all this bring back KK s***e will ya, the guys gone OK, just accept it, put your bedsheets away, stop waving your shoe in the air & move on!!
