Another Wise move from Mike Ashley?

By Lee Ryder on Apr 1, 09 09:05 PM

The grey skies that have hovered above St James's Park this season have continued to clear with Dennis Wise now a goner at Gallowgate.

On the same day Alan Shearer emerged as the Toon's new boss, Wise's controversial role as transfer chief is now well and truly at an end to the delight of Geordie fans.

Shearer has always maintained he would not work under a director of football and it looks like Wise's departure was all part of the deal for Big Al returning to the club as boss.

The Chronicle revealed all was not well between Wise and key members of the Toon board this week after we exposed a row between Kinnear and the little Cockney over the transfer of Peter Lovenrkands.

It was clear there were problems with JK wanting to sign Lovenkrands and Wise feeling his best days were behind him.

And that has been rubber stamped by his departure.

It would have been much easier for Ashley to do this in September.

Wise arrived in January 2008 and instantly sparked off speculation that it just wouldn't work out under Kevin Keegan.

At first Ashley backed Wise along with influential figurehead Tony Jimenez.

When it all went wrong Jimenez left with respect despite a series of problems between the pair and KK.

In many ways Jimenez left in dignified manner while Wise seemingly lacked class in my opinion.

A new era for Newcastle with penny seemingly dropping for Ashley.

Message to MA.

Phase one save the club from releagtion.

Phase two give shearer a transfer budget of 20 or 30 million and get him made permamnent.

Phase three get back into Europe.

Phase four win the league.... simple.

And don't appoint anymore DOF's, keep the management team small and support big Al.

great to hear wise is gone!!! and with shearer on board even better.went on to one of the articles on here and shearer says that he is only in for the 8 games and no further, hopefully he does a good job and gets a Permanent contract. wouldnt mind to hear some of your views if he will stay longer than the 8 games Intended

Well the bloke who coined the term 'Corridor of Uncertainty' has more than a corridor to deal with now - City of Uncertainty more like.

I think Dowie could be good for the club mind. I like the thought of those in charge being able to take the players in a toe to toe bar fight - and with Shearer and Dowie we have that (the devious dwarf would have pulled a knife while you were getting the beers & nuts in - good riddance).

I would like to hear your thoughts Lee and would you think will happen with JFK,There`s no Director of football anymore and the club have stated there wont be one going forward, surely its unthinkable that he will return as manager after the season is finished

mark said:

ashley has done this because he is worried that the ticket sales for next season have dried up. DO NOT BUY SEASON TICKETS UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT THE SITUATION IS AT THAT POINT. In the mean time give the team under alan the best support you can.

relton said:

Lee - presumably you are digging around and sounding out your "sources".
We need to know
What's going to happen next season vis a vis a manager (relegated or not).
Whats happening to jfk ?
Is AS keeping his seat warm ???

Whats the word Lee ????

Look what the apointment of a good manager has done already. Supporters lifted and Wise out (what was he doing here anyway!?), both will help the Directors no-end. In fact if it stays like this and we stay up we'll never have to listen to another director again.. surely that is what MA would prefer?

If AS is going at the end of season MA please have a short list ready for a new manager - a top proven manager!! JFK is effectively retired..

"Another Wise move from Mike Ashley?"

Can you not give it a rest with the Ashley love man?

The bloke has took the club to the brink, yet EVERY article you write has the intent to cast a positive light on the bloke.

I'm happy to see the back of Wise, but he's not the one who's run the club so woefully for the past year.

Finally some positive moves at the club. Suddenly the chances of getting the points we need have improved and hopefully there'll be a revitalised energy to the team's performances starting on Saturday.

Also, thanks to clevblue for one of the first positive and decent comments from a non-NUFC fan about our club - it's nice to know that there are fans of other clubs out there who actually know their football rather than the rubbish most write about NUFC in forums and emails to broadcasters. Cheers clev.

my favourite all time player, becomes the manager, but i have to say, i am little disappointed, if not mistified, by the whole situation, the press conference, i was hoping, to hear the rumour, it was 8 games only, then i'm gone, blown out the water, but it wasn't, shearer said the exact same, again the question's have to be asked to ashley, what the hell is going on, joe will be bac, next season?, what the f*ck, for the first time, this season, since KK left, i thought, he we go at last, moving the club forward, but to say joe kinnear will be back as manager, is just taking the club backwards again, its great all the fans where out cheering, a legend is coming home, but did they read or listen at all, he is buggering off in 8 weeks, and mark my words, if they let kinnear come back, we will be all saying the same as we where, doom and gloom

Dick Fitzwell said:

I agree John, worrying. Hoping it was going to be a permanent appointment.
What's the likely hood of a dream pairing of a Kinnear/Dowie management team for next season?

TO EVERY SINGLE BLACK N WHITE FOLLOWER on this forum and far beyond, please, listen to your fellow black n white brother for 1 moment, only for 1 solitary moment within a season that has flood us with endless waves of pain and internal bloodshed. I, together with you all stand with open wounds. I, together with you all stand bleeding from cuts that have severed our one and only true inspiration...Newcastle. I, together with you all stand blinded in our perceptions of whom we hold responsible for igniting a hazardous flame within the core of the mamoth love of our hearts, Newcastle. I together with you all, struggle to breath in this dark and black corner called the Relegation Zone. And yes, we all share one common feeling...that we stand before the mighty premier league in our raw and naked form, barely clinging onto our dignity and decades of pride. For endless nights we have prayed for a glimmer of hope. Hope! A emotion that we barely understand as it was shelved years ago when Kevin Keegan saved us from an inevitable drop.
Shearer, our hero, is a breed apart from the rest. He has defied the given and challenged the equilibrium. He has subverted the paradigm. Shearer as a player charted new paths for others to follow, and now, he, you, me and all of us have been given a rare opportunity to charter the first chapter in a path that is befitting to our richly defined club...and that my brothers is SURVIVAL! In Shearer we trust, in one another we shall stand united again, we shall regroup, patch our wounds, stand side by side in 2 distinctly famous colours, lay our hands on our badge and place our hearts on our brave shoulders and rrrrrrrrrrrrroar our way to stability! I have been shaken by mere words in articles...Now, it is YOUR TIME and MY TIME to shake those who dare to underestimate our BRAVERY and DESIRE to survive! The greatest victories in the life of a GEORDIE FAN are not remembered for the way victory was achieved, but as of today MY FELLOW BROTHERS, it will be remembered for the way achievement was found through raw BRAVERY! We have had our differences, now for 8 matches, our differences MUST be set aside. Chelsea can bleed, we have tasted it by stealing 1 point in a weakened state at Stamford Bridge...Need I say more!!!!!!!!!!!
But, today, this very minute and hour, allow me to remind us all that with every passing Century, mankind has witnessed the brave rise and the weak fall. The Spartans proved that Bravery can stand its ground and with hold the greatest force known to man, not in numbers but in the undisputed weapon of them all...Belief! 300 men believed that they could conquer a force greater than anyother on earth, and in the end my brothers, those heroes lost, but they were never defeated!!! Shearer is in modern terms, the Geordie Spartan we have all loved for years. Shearer is our undisputed last HERO standing. Forget the glamour, he needs none of it! Forget the financial rewards, he has it! Forget the reputation, because he is the description of the word! Shearer has prepared himself for the greatest battle of his life, and he is walking straight into the a fire that very few would dare to tackle. Although we know that there is still much to fear for the remainder of the season, for decades our club has provided us with the sword of victory in the most critical of challenges. As a fan, I cant allow my soul to rest if I have tasted silverware! No! I can only allow my soul to rest if Silverware fails to exhaust and suffocate my most important ideal as a fan...PRIDE!!!!!!! I am proud, proud enough as wounded as I am to walk the walk alongside Shearer knowing well enough that our inevitable end may meet us at the end of the road. We as Newcastle Fans have a true leader in Shearer. Sir Bobby was our 1 and only, but now, we have Shearer. The only difference between Shearer and Bobby aside from experience is age...We my brothers despite the denial, will have Shearer for the greater part of his and our lives!

Just read an article on yahoo sport which most of you may have read and yet again we appear to be sometimes fickle fans and unrealistic . Well if the reporter took any time out of his day to get to know us he would realise that all we want is the chance to have a football club with just as much equal oppertunity in it as any other football club in the premier league and for the football club to recognise that football is played on the pitch and not played out on screens in front of the media to defecate our name , we are proud of our club it has achieved so little but achiecves so much every single week by making every single one of us proud to be a geordie no matter how much heart ache all we want is an equal chance , throughout the last few years we have been denied that chance because of a number of woefull decisions made by pople at the top, our life has now and continues to be a circus for the media and rival fans to mock and laugh at and it affects the players on the pitch. Shearer understands every aspect of what every fan of this club craves and thats to go to support your team every week we're not after instant success or to win every bit of silverware thats out there (although it would be nice )we just want them players to give there all for their fans that care so passionately for their club, football isnt pretty at times but can be played so gracefully and attractively if you believe in your ability and shearer understands this like he said . This might not work but if it does we stay in the premiership and hope that shearer enjoys it so much he doesnt want to let go ! lets raise the roof on saturday and show chelsea that we arent going to lie down and play dead we want to win ... come on the toon !!!!!

AndyT said:

John, you've got to be kidding me! Do you really believe that if Shearer keeps us up, he'll leave us with Kinnear. No way. He'll love it so much, that he won't want to leave. Geordies wouldn't allow him to do such a thing.
Also, he's probably just signed on for the 8 games so that if we do get relegated, he won't be forced into an uncomfortable position by a contract. Think a little bit, will ya?!

Thanks clevblue,a real football fan...Good luck to City too......errr, can we have our goalie back please??

TheToonRock said:

RomanWarrier...If my memory serves me well, the only crusifiction I can recall is that of your former player, Dennis Wise! If you fail to get the "easy" 3 points or 1 point you are after this Saturday, you truly will experience the BLUEST MONDAY of them all! The pressure is on you as everyone expects you to take 3 points with ease. Well, clearly you are 1 of those who wish to tread on unknown territory. Keep biting Warrier, because the only thing you are going to taste after chewing on the rock is your powdered teeth! Our chances are slim against you, but I'll take them!

I think things will improve from now on. We can complain about Ashley till we`re blue in the face, (and I have) and all it`s got us is nearly relegated. But now Wise and the continental management structure are gone, Shearer is manager. We`ve got what we wanted. It seems Ashley really has learned his lesson. Lets give him another chance...

RomanWarrier said:

ToonRock LoL named after Rock Hudson presumably.
You going to be posing down The Strawberry in your Sparticus outfit for us all ???
Boundary Lane will still be adorned by the crosses of the crucified fickle ones who easily dance to Ashley's tune - all the way to the Championship.
In your case - the tune is YMCA.
Keep Dancing.

Gary Wright said:

I think we need to read between the lines here. When Big Al says '8 games and 8 games only' he means he'll do that to save the club from relegation but after that he won't bail out Ashley any more than that. He's not doing this for Ashley and co he's doing this because he loves the club. Shearer is far more than Ashley deserves and he's very lucky we have someone who loves this club THAT much. A Man who turned down Man Utd TWICE (or three times if you believe the tale that Ferguson wanted him when Shearer was in his second last year). A man who said his greatest honour was becoming captain of his team and 'living the dream'.

Now when he keeps us up with points to spare Ashley should be BEGGING for him to stay and 4 home games with an absolutely electric atmosphere should turn even the most thick skinned heart. Surely that's why he bought the bloody club in the first place? No other club would get the news coverage that NUFC have had in the last few days. Even Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal don't get this sort of reaction which to me says it all.

We are blessed.

John said:

Andy, i hope your right, if that is the case, why can't someone who loves the club that much, just say i want the job. Why tell the fans its 8 games only, next season i want to be sitting in the stand watching.

Joe will be back as manager, shearer said, don't get me wrong, as i said, the guy is my all time fav player, but it just spreads uncertainty throught the place.

And come May, whatever happens, the circus, will start up again, sky outside the ground, blah blah, he's staying, he's going.
