Red mist descends for Barton once again
Nobody expected anything from Newcastle United's trip to Anfield but even the Magpies are capable of coming out of a nailed on defeat in worse shape than they were before hand - and after Joey Barton's red card in front of the Kop, Alan Shearer is unable to rely on his midfielder for the rest of the season.
Many felt that Barton was a liability long before this but after the player worked hard during his injury hell to get his head right, many were prepared to give him his umpteenth chance in football - including Shearer.
But sadly Big Al was let down just like the rest of Barton's managers have been in the past.
It leaves Newcastle fighting without him in the final three games of the season.
With Barton banned they don't have an offensive midfielder who can chip in and help the shot shy strike force.
And by will certain people now stop accusing Shearer of lacking bottle?
Not only did he have the courage to take on this job to start with but he's now dropped Michael Owen and came out and slammed Barton.
Kevin Keegan backed Barton and so did Big Sam.
But Shearer has pulled no punches and it looks like Barton's future is well and truly on the line.
With United three points from safety, Newcastle could do with some of that Shearer bottle on the pitch.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Hi Lee-my son-in-law plays in a Saturday morning league and it's often more exciting than watching NUFC at the moment. I am currently in my 43rd year at SJP so have been watching so long I can even remember us winning something (I was at every game in the Fairs Cup victory!). I have to agree with previous comments. I suspect we will go down because we are one of the worst three teams in the league. Although appreciating what Keegan did for us over the years I didn't think it was a great idea to bring him back. BUT the writing was on the wall when he left-not because he couldn't stick it-but because on principal he didn't want to lose a fabulous player like Milner and replace him with two guys no one had heard of or rated. If he was wrong then Xisco and Gonzalez would have played/scored occassionally.
Overall the players and owners should do what we mere mortals have to do and take responsibility for their actions. Instead the decent ones will go elsewhere, the poor ones will continue to be paid and put the club in even more trouble and we will be playing in the championship. As for me I am so stupid I will see you there! Regards Rob.
Hi Lee
Listed below is one of me comments I made while getting stick from a Ronnie Lambert on the 31st Dec 08 the Bog about Mike Ashley Staying, looks like its coming true ( but I am praying it does not)Its the last paragraph
Burky said:
BURK, very good Runny, its like being back at infant school again ï I like the apology then the little quip after, noticed a couple of your mateees do it as well especially that Jedi bloke off Star Wars.
Is this not a free, shall I say point of view site ??? seems like you and your cronies have the divine right to rule the roost here (cant sit their thatâÂÂs Runnies seat scenario)
Everyone is entitled to their point of view and if you donâÂÂt like mine well tough, soon as somebody stands up to the bully boys THEY CANNOT BE A NEWCASTLE SUPPORTER, MUST BE A RIVAL, A MACKEM EVEN if they disagree with you. Well I am and started at 7 years old 1967 v Blackpool ( cant believe I am getting into a ner ner na ner ner with another bloke) Yes I am aware of Billy Whitehurst and George Riley ( we all know his nicknames ïÂÂ) I would have been more impressed if you had mentioned Ray Clarke or Franz Keornen, now I am getting into a â I know more about Newcastle United than youâ well thatâÂÂs if you are really a Newcastle supporter ? Oh no I am starting with the quips now ïÂÂ
Yes I agree with â Keegan 1st time round as manager took us forwardâ yes it was great having entertaining football, but we won nothing, no silverware in the trophy cabinet, you get nothing for being second. I am sick of having theâ how did you throw away the league when 12 points clearâ when I speak to other supporters ( yes I speak to other supporters, hope thatâÂÂs allowed ?) KK should have stuck it out back in 1997, he had just bought Shearer, but no something upset him and he was off, never saying a word to the fans and the same has happened again, KK says he cant comment until his money is sorted, ã8m the money we supporters have put into the club and its going to KK for what 9 months work, not bad eh, when he came back, it was from only a soccer circus for gods sake.
It really bugs me that he is now wanting ã8m off Newcastle United, ã8m we could buy a couple of decent players with. I tell you now, I will love it if he does not get the money love it. (Bet you have something to say about that little coment)
On the 75% of fans behind Ashley, well I admit to inflating on that, but now the dust has settled a bit, I am finding lots of fans are thinking about the situation and changing their minds, not you obviously.
And one last point, if we get relegated by 1 or 2 points give yourselves a pat on the back, I take it you and your cronies were protesting at the Hull City match, well that lead to the 2nd goal. I hope and pray it does not happen, but it would be absolutely fantastic if we stayed up and won the FA cup under Mike Ashley , what would you and your cronies have to say then ??? and who will be the crawling sycophants then eh Runny ???????

We've got too many players who are either past it, lazy or poor (Nolan, Butt, Coloccini, Smith (Smith?!), Owen, Barton, Louvenkrands all played yesterday and added nothing to the side) bought by a succession of mamagers and two greedy oweners. We haven't had a player who could pass the ball since Nobby left. The Mackems ought to be grateful to us. They might well have been going down if not for us. Doubtless there are still some idiots out there who are a s thick as Barton and confuse violent behaviour with passion. Give me the skill of Alonso any day
How Big Lee Man,
Just wondered what you made of these two headlines you writ last week....
Cockney Press aim at Owen again but Shearer is no mug
By Lee Ryder on Apr 21, 09 09:28 AM
So hold on a minute, Michael Owen goes on a barren run, loses his England place and then has a bad game in London and suddenly he should be dropped for Newcastle United
AND
Shearer backs Michael Owen on Liverpool return
May 1 2009 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle
ALAN SHEARER has backed Michael Owen ahead of his emotional return to Anfield on Sunday.
Unless am horriblee mistaken, Owen was dropped.
Eh? Man? What's gannin on?
What's gannin on? Eh?
Well you'd have to ask Alan Shearer why he dropped Michael Owen because he picks the team.
And my personal opinion is, Owen SHOULD have started at Anfield, given that Oba Martins and Peter Lovenkrands got nowhere near the goal during their pitch time.
That's what gannin on, bonny lad.
Well after tonite's Hull/Villa game we will know where we stand. If Hull win we then need Sunlun to lose both their away games, and we MUST win against Boro and Fulham. Then its down to the the last day fixture - Sunlun vs Chelski and us vs Villa!. What price WE send Sunlun down?. IF Hull lose to Villa ( more likely) they will be in mix too. But whatever we MUST win against Boro, anything less and we ARE doomed. Boro have to do the same, so it could make for a very entertaining game!. Then we MUST beat Fulham - they are a form team and Hodgson et al will not rollover if Europe is still a possibility for them. Im still of the view we will go down and wholesale changes at ST James will ensue, with loss of a number of big name players to balance books. Next season will be about blooding youngsters and local lads, with or without Shearer at the helm - will likely be Dowie IMHO.....
It's possible that we will need 7 points to stay up, can't see it.
As for Barton, one of Big Sam's many rubbish signings fo us.
It is going to take a long time and stability to sort out this mess.
Hi Lee,
I have to say i was surprised that Owen did not play on sunday and AS and you are correct when it come's to picking the team.
Mind you that Owen miss last week was dreadful.
I believe that AS has realized that MO has lost more than a yard, but you are right Lee that he should of played him.
By all accounts Oba wanted to come off in the 1st half....is that true?
I must admit i was watching the game on my laptop in the USA and i was nearly physically sick at the barton challenge, as i am one of his fans.
He has so much talent and i was hoping for a yellow card...
Why keep him on for 90 minutes in his return game from injury.
He was great in the 1st half and then he was moved to the right and there was a marked difference in his involvement.
Alan has to take responsability and like all geordies, hulls game tonight and then on sat or sunday is massive.
If i am honest i am in shock that we still have a chance with all the loses...
I may have to head to church again on sunday and pray like all geordies.
Andrew
hey burk, i appreciate your annoyed keegans getting 8 million just for walking out on us but im more annoyed with mike ashley for using our cub as a way to make a quick 50 million and showing nothing but contept for us and everything we stand for. if anything there should have been MORE protests.
As a long term NUFC Supporter (NUFC 0 Burnley 0 around 1966 was my first game)
and I also saw the Fairs Cup win, as well as all the Wembley disasters since, I agree with a lot of what Burky said, in both his submissions. The fact is the NUFC supporters have always been unhappy with whoever is running the club, with one notable exception, Sir John Hall who was universally liked and it doesn't seem to matter what they do. Mike Ashley is not the worst by far, look back to Stan Seymour and Lord Westwood if you really want to know about lack of investment, poor management and a ramshackle stadium. Yet despite all this Joe Harvey managed to build a very decent side, who with some real investement could have done great things and that includes winning the title. John Hall invested millions, gave us the manager we all wanted and and we won nothing. Freddy Shepherd brought in top class Managers by anyones standards, gave them millions to spend, yet he was generally disliked by all and again we won nothing. The problems of NUFC are a deep routed history of failure which somehow needs to be addressed (Dont'ask me how!!) where we hope, but never really expect to win things. Alan Shearer is not the messiash and isn't likley to be. He has made no difference whatsoever,he looks like a Manager with his smart suits, good handling of the press etc, but his tactics are shocking. We are almost cerainly getting relegated and even now I hear people talking about how we will win at Villa Park and save our skins. How the hell is that going to happen?? It is as much as a nailed on defeat as Liverpool was and personally I don't think we are anywhere near capable of beating Boro or Fulham, so it is not likely to matter anyway. The only way forward is to accept our fate, start rebuilding for next season in the championship, get rid of all the money grabbers, has beens and hangers on that make up the excuse for our current squad and get everyone at the club to try their dammed hardest to get it right for once. If Mike Ashley does do a good rebuilding job, all the mistakes will be forgotten, he will be a hero until it all falls apart once again, because thats the way we are and thats what NUFC is all about. Its the way it always has been and the way it always will be and anyone who only started supporting and being interested in NUFC (which I feel is a large proportion of the get Ashley out brigade) in the Keegan/John Hall era should check out our history and you will see the patterns are remarkably similar.
could someone remind me how much the Halls and Sheperd invested and how much they made from selling their stake in the club, the problem is investors see the geordie public as easy pleased and easy to rip off
Shearer was, I think just being cautious with Owen, Why risk injury for a game where we have no chance? We have 2 games that we can win, maybe 3. But we need Owen playing and not in the treatment room.
As for Barton. He has let us down again and should be put up for transfer. Maybe Whitley Bay Warriors would be interested.
burky divint start that sh!te again
what yi on aboot noo man?
kieran you want to check out burkys original comments theyll crack you up
and now he's going on as if he's nostradamus
Butt, Colloncini, Duff, Oba, Enrique, Nolan, Ameobi, Viduka, Owen, Geremi, Taylor, all the above have committed more serious crimes all season than than Joey has, by pulling on the black and white shirt and collecting substantial funds pretending to be a professional footballer!!!!!!!
Joey Barton should have been sacked long ago if Keegan had not backed him. He is the poison in the bloodstream of the toon. This started the fallout with Ashley and KK. Michael Owen has shown no appetite for the toon since Barton came out of jail. The same for Shay Given, Milner and CharlesZzzz.
Middlesborough have shown more desire than the toon over the last few weeks so I fear the worst for saturday.
Time to face the facts doomed.
Stan Anderson, Jim Iley, Wyn, Supermac spirit needed.

Hello Jeddi
Hows Norway ????
I was just making a point about the protesting at the Hull match, what did I say back in December ?? Low and behold Hull are 3 points above us. I dont want to go on about the Keegan senario again, so that sh.te as was talking about might happen, hopeing and praying not like, but if we dont beat Boro on Monday it looks like curtains.
whats the difference between alan shearer and newcastle united? alan shearer will still be on match of the day next year ha ha ha
Lack of investment in the team- Simple!
Talented, pacey and technically gifted players gone. Slow, lazy, unfit and poor players brought in!
Coincidence?
Owen is out of form, Oba is struggling with injury isnt it about time we released the lone Ranger, this Kid would bust a gut to score and at least should be on the bench if the elder sstatesman fail to deliver by half time against the Smoggies.
Newcastle suspend Barton. On full pay????If so, whats changed from the rest of the season??? except now he doesn't even have to turn up at the training ground to collect his ã64000. What a hardship.
The only person writing rubbish is you.
You expect results to shine through on the pitch after five games with the fourth manager of the season in charge?
How long did it take Kevin Keegan to get a win last season?
How long did it take Ferguson to get it right at Man United?
The truth is the set-up was a joke before Shearer took over and anybody who was in or around the club at that time could see that which is what has been reported today.
This club is crying out for stability and Shearer needs the chance to do it.
What are you suggesting, we get rid of Shearer because he hasn't won five games out of five.
You are a comedian? Right?
Ronnie, being fined ã128000, is not the same as being suspended, perhaps on full pay.ã128000 is two weeks wages, his contract runs longer than that.
Get rid of Shearer, Lee? Just where am I suggesting that? My sentiments are purely that the sycophantic nature of this blog does no good either for the Chronicle's standing as a newspaper worth reading, or your standing as a journalist.
Yes Brian I know that. My point was to the lad who thought Barton would be sitting at home on full pay without punishment. He's been fined 2 weeks pay AND suspended for the rest of the season when he'll be turfed out, that's only a week or two's pay for nowt. Hopefully they'll get rid of the scumb@g before transfer activity starts proper. We could get 2 or 3 decent young players for that wage of his, ã64,000 per week ..........my blood boils.
So why do you keep coming back and reading it if it isn't worth reading?
Ronny
You âÂÂBurkâ its like being back at school again. DonâÂÂt flatter ya sell man, I only meant to paste the last paragraph, never been bored enough since to read your comments.
