Irish consortium throw hat into Toon ring

By Lee Ryder on Jul 12, 09 01:30 PM

A former Sunderland shareholder has claimed he is putting together a consortium to buy Newcastle United.

News breaking here in the Irish capital today is at an early stage of starting a takeover of the Magpies.

Irish publican Charlie Chawke was part of the Drumaville consortium which bought Sunderland in 2006.

And Chawke said today: We are in talks with Newcastle at the moment.

"Our legal and financial people are speaking to the legal and financial people over there.

"Negotiations are not too advanced.

"It's at an initial stage but we have got a fairly good response.

"There's great interest, it's just a matter of putting the money together."

And despite the Sunderland links, Chawke added: "We had three great years there (Sunderland) but unfortunately we're gone now and we're looking for options.

"We have to look at options other than Sunderland and Newcastle would fit very nicely into our portfolio.

"Newcastle is a very viable option at the moment.

"It's for sale for about £100m, which is about 500m less than it was worth a year and a half or two years ago."

This is the first time an interested party has publically expressed an interest! I hope they can work something out quickly. We are in deep touble otherwise.

Perhaps i'm growing far to cynical but the fact this charlie chalk (you couldnt make it up!) fella is wipping up a consortium to buy our club demonstrates that we have no ideal bidders for the club. FFS will want to buy the club for a song and will hold out as long as possible (well into next season) in order to do so. Are the profitable group in this for the PR?

Charlie believes our club was worth £600m a couple of years ago! That Irish crack must be strong stuff!

We've been up for sale for over 40 days.

Why suddenly express an interest and start trying to put together a consortium now?

And even more worryingly, how come the interest seems to have been met with a positive response? Rather than "you're a bit feckin' late ya daft eeejit!"

We must still be a million miles away from seeing the back of Ashley.

Just show's did we really have anyone putting in 100 million offers, looks not, what concerned me more, about this irish lot, is what he said in the interview, we are trying to get the money together, if there struggling to get the money, how do they expect to run the club, and finance things.

And then the club was worth 500 million more than a year and half ago, erm what? are they on the same planet

Do not believe a word of it.

How many points do you think we will need to stay in the Championship?

How come all the reports from the last few weeks have said, we are weeks away from a deal.

How many weeks are they talking about, 4 or 5 or maybe 52.

Please get your finger out and buy the club. Before NUFC turns into LUFC

An Irish consortium riddled with ex Sunderland connections headed by a man called Charlie Chalk? Six years ago the supporters of this football club were disapointed with two all draw away to Inter Milan to halt their progression into the quarter finals of the Champions Leauge. This hasn't happened over night.

I really cant bare to think about where we will be in 12 months time. Give it a month and players we need to keep will have gone and we will be left with the over paid scraps.

I dont beleive there are any buyers out there who can take this club back to where is belongs or none at the table anyway

hmmmm these muppets really are made of foam and have someones hand up there backsides!! obviously these 100m bids have been dreamt up again, i think they did something similar the first time around. can someone tell us how much sweet FA i mean MA really wants for the club? so its 100m for SJP and the playrs staff etc., (someone help me out here) then he'll want back the other 240m hes put in of his own money or whaever it is, which were actually just "Loans" to the club!!! he never gave the money away, so at a quick geusstamate hes still after 340m+ ok then, slightly more than 100m. that might shed a little light on the matter.. i may be well off the mark but from what i'm hearing its well over 10m hes after..!?

Its time the truth were spelled out for all to see.

Mr Ashley is not selling the club for 100m, its actually nearer 200m because he wants 100m in cash, and for that he will transfer all of the clubs debts to you.

That means you lose 100m in cash and gain debts that need to be paid off that actually put you out of pocket to nearly 200m.

And thats why there are so many parties that are claiming interest, only to back off once the detailed negotiations begin.

If Mike Ashley wants to be up 100m out of the deal he would give the club and its debts over at a notional sum, or, he could wipe out the debts and sell the club for 100m. What he cannot do, and it must be crystal clear by now, is sell the club for 100m and transfer all the debts to the new owner.

You might think this is crazy,

But I hope it does not get to the stage where this is dragging on so long because of Ashleys demands,
That, all the interested Parties decide to pul out and Ashley puts the club into receivership ?????????? IT COULD HAPPEN
