Newcastle United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0
SHOLA AMEOBI made it four goals in two games as he hit the winner to defeat Sheffield Wednesday.
The Toon Army turned up in force to watch United take on the Owls, with a crowd of nearly 44,000 swelling St James's Park.
This was more than turned up to watch Sunderland v Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.
Ameobi put the ball in the back of the net on 15 minutes, and while Wednesday had a good spell of play at the end of the match, the Magpies held on to record their second victory and move on to four points and third place in the table.
I was at the game to bring you all the colour and drama, and have some banter with the thousands of fans who logged on.

Good win and great goal but not a convincing performance. Colo was poor; Nolan was well off the pace and gave the ball away, Butt-style. He should have been replaced with Guthrie. Jonas failed to deliver far too often. Simpson? Too early to tell, but he certainly didn't make any impact. Shola should have had at least one more and Carroll should've scored. Taylor? Who knows if his mind is make up?
I was listening the game at work and it was pretty nervous...
But hey, it's 3 points!
I'm curious to see how we do at Palace...
Howay The Lads!
Any word yet on this so called takover or is this a delaying tactics by Ashley, the come the end of the transferw window take the club off the market.
Next week no the following week then Next Week give me a break????????????????????????
We were rubbish - but 3 points is 3 points. So the ends justifies!
Yes, we all know that Brian Laws would have his players sweating blood and you have to be fully committed at all times in this league, but Sheff Wed have turned into a bunch of spoilers, trying to do a Bolton or a Stoke after being a soft touch for too long.
There may be things to criticise from last might, but the Toon did well in the circumstances. Wednesday's 26 fouls, when Championship sides usually average about 12 per match, says a lot.
We still need a nippy centre forward --- Ranger? Even a fit Jeffers, perhaps? Maybe Lovenkrands, but he would be better wide, still with two central strikers.
Betcha M.A.takes the club off the market next week! Betcha he doesn't spend in the transfer deadline week! Betcha he doesn't appoint big Al! Betcha the the Toon plummet when injuries set in! Betcha I'm in a severe state of depression!
Jesus, all this "my dad is bigger than your dad" stuff is pathetic. I thought we were meant to be above all that. And the Danny Simpson "explosive interview" was more of a dud. No doubt he'll say similar things at his next club. When I was a bairn, I loved all this stuff, but now it's just childish. Right up there with kissing the badge for things that do my head in about modern day footballers! Oh, and Taylor is leaving at the end of the transfer window - you heard it here first.
Danny Simpson should keep his trap shut until he's done something to earn credibility. Typical rubbish story.
never mind that is MA staying or going?
Betcha M.A.sells next week! Betcha Barry takes over! Betcha big Al is installed as manager! Betcha it's a little too late for worthwhile transfers! Betcha I'm in a moderate state of depression!
Isn't Barry just another barrow boy? The last thing we need is another wide boy!
