Kinnear - the second coming

By Lee Ryder on Aug 5, 09 12:57 PM

Joe Kinnear reckons that Newcastle United offered him the job two weeks ago and while it might sound like the former Wimbledon boss spouting off again - I can quite believe it.

In a summer of secrets and silence from the current regime and talk of Mike Ashley giving it another crack, following reports from London, the Ashley camp responded today by confirming he would have no other choice but to resume his position if the club wasn't sold.

Sceptics might say that this club was never going to be sold at the price that Ashley is demanding with the overall package likely to cost the thick end of £300million.

It's understood that Kinnear coming back, if Shearer wasn't appointed was always the Plan B at St James's Park, if Ashley stays.

And although the club batted these suggestions away last month, it was never truly convincing with nobody of any not willing to put their name on it just a spokesman.

Even after Kinnear fell ill last year and medics said that Kinnear was never going to be fit to return to work the plan from Derek Llambias and Co was always for JFK to come back to United at some stage.

And Kinnear said: "I've been offered a two year contract and I'm mulling it over.

"I've told Mike I'm not going to go back to football for at least another three months.

"We'll look at it again then but in the mean time if they feel the need to get another manager then be it.

"I was offered it two weeks ago.

"I told him I wasn't up to it, I was due to go back for pre-season friendlies as manager but I told him I wasn't up to it.

"I couldn't for medical reasons I needed to take time out and take it from there in three months.

"In another three months the picture might be completely different."

"I'm not sure about that, we haven't discussed Alan Shearer at all.

"I was offered the job two weeks ago."

And when pressed about the said statement from the club that claimed he wasn't coming back, he said: "I didn't see that.

"I have sat down in depth and talked with Derek Lambasias (sic)."

Has MA ever had any real intention of selling ? What a joke, I will never return to SJP until he's gone, away games only for me.

Hi Lee

As a Newcastle Fan, I have over last few months, if not the last couple of years become disillusioned with the way the club is been run and has been run by this fool Mike Ashley, When you hear of players having to dip into there own pockets to arrange plane flights and the club only a few days from the start of the season and no players purchased and no new manager in place, Now I hear it could be another 6 months before the club is even sold, ( THAT IS WHEN THE LAST OF THE PREMIERSHIP MONEY RUNS OUT, ????????? ) It tells you there are serous problems at Newcastle that could take years to resolve.

What really worries me is how much longer is Ashley going to keep subsidising the club, before he puts the club into receivership, But Lee this could happen,
I think he is struggling to sell the club for the money he wants because off the debt, ( ie, Players wages and all the other bills that come with once been in the premiership )
This fool is determined to destroy this club and I think it is obvious to see, He has never given a damm about Newcastle from the minute he bought the club,
I just wish the Hall family would come out and admit they made a mistake selling the Newcastle to this fool.

( And I may add that Derrick Lambias saying last week that the club will be sold this week another lie lie lie lie lie )
And Kinnear weel what can you say WHAT A MESS

Ashley has to go, and the fans need to make it clear to him-and his people-they are not welcome and never will be again.

Look at the facts. Look at the actions of Ashley and his people. Forget about the words, just look at the actions. Boycott the matches, boycott the merchandise and see not one penny goes into the club. Because make no mistake, if he isn't pushed out, it will continue to get worse and worse.

A football club is not simple a business. There is a duty of care also. Ashley has employed people who at best have been inept. The results speak for themselves-continuous decline under his ownership.

If the fans don't make it clear they want him out now, then we have no right to complain as things continue to deteriorate under his ownership. And they will, because that is what has happened from day one.

Look at his actions and ignore everything else. Put not one penny into the club until he is gone. Do that because you love the club and it is the only sure way of removing this blight once and for all.

i don't think he did have any intention to sell really, other than he is always open to offers like everybody who owns anything. i had a strange thought last season thats come back to me a few times, that he really did want to take the club down to get rid of the free loaders and cut the out goings and bring young players through that he could control develop and sell for profit. as he said arsenal was his model and his 5yr plan was going accordingly!? hes took a chance that he'll still get 40k bums on seats and he'll be in profit. its obvious now that 2-4 more players will be out come end of transfer window and i think he'll take that. he isn't interested what division we're in as he knows we'll never make the top 4 in the next 5 yrs.. and he's pretty much banking on the fans to turn up, which they will as they have too much pride. it will make him look like a genius. as last season he took it off the market because SP aren't worth paying if they aren't doing anything.. some of what he is doing i.e. getting rid of dead wood etc i don't disagree with but is it worth the effect it is having on the city? well only someone from outside of the region could do it, someone who doesn't understand the people. and him and Dewik lambsarse really don't understand much at all..

It says in this Times article that once the season starts Ashley doesn't sell the club by the start of the season then he will stay and commit to putting another £40mil in to subsidise the running of the club in the hope we will go back up at the first attempt. While I am reticent to believe any of the rubbish written about us in any publication at the moment (and sorry Lee, that includes the Chronicle)if this were to be true why would he not just lower his price by £40Mil??
We sink to new depths daily but try and keep the faith.

It is about time that MA was reported to the FA for not being a fit and proper person to run our football club. His decisions regarding the running of our club are deplorable and seems bent on destroying it.

Although a season ticket holder and some people will say cutting my nose off to spite my face, I will never return to St.James Park until that imbecile is removed from the asylum.

With the BBC reporting JFK's claims, and Sky quoting a United source as saying it won't happen, we're left with yet another piece of slapstick comedy. Oh dear. When will it end?

NUFC should not touch Kinnear with a barge pole. No disrespect to him, if fit he may have it in him to cut it in the 2nd tier, but it is not as if he is some hot property worth taking any sort of big risk over. Even the first time round, as well as being a strange and contentious choice, Kinnear was surely a gamble given his previous health issues - and just looked what happened. Clearly more evidence that Mr Ashley enjoys a gamble - at our expense.
We can't afford to take that risk a second time.
If I was in his shoes I would think twice about Newcastle anyway - our club could put a strain on the healthiest heart right now. Move on Joe and allow us to do the same please.

Newcastle United Boycott:

It is time for the Toon Army to march into battle.

OK, we may not be able to get King Kev back - that is a deeply distressing fact.

But we can - as a group - show Mike Ashley exactly how we feel.

We play Hull on September 15.

We can use that match to attack Ashley, Llambias and Wise on two fronts, one which will hit them in the pocket and the other which will get national publicity on news and sports channels all over the world.

The first front: If you haven't yet got a ticket to the match, DO NOT buy one. You'll miss the match, but you'll be able to be outside the ground to chant your protest.

The second front:
If you HAVE got a ticket, or hold a season ticket, USE IT!

Be in your seat at five minutes to three. When the referee blows his whistle to start the match, stand up and leave!

Again, you'll miss the mjatch, but no news channel worth it's salt will be willing to ignore a mass walk-out by the Toon army.

The score Newcastle United 1-2 Hull City
One point cost us life in the premiershipthanks to John L & Co

Hmmm, I see you quote Joe Kinnear as saying ''I'm not sure about that, we haven't discussed Alan Shearer at all''
I don't think JK's a bad bloke, but what's it got to do with him?
JK as manager? Are Ashley & Llambias trying to kill this bloke?
These two have tried to make Alan Shearer look a right mug and I can't see Alan conemplating coming back as manager as long as they are in power, nor can I see them trying to appoint him again.
I would say to Alan Shearer...''Be like me and stay well away from this circus when these clowns are running it!''

So what should be our response if Ashley fails to sell the club again?

Boycott the home games and we will be accused of being fair weather fans, only attending matches when in the top flight.

Boycott the any game and be accused of not getting behind the team and helping them try for promotion.

Boycott merchandise / concessions and the clubs books look poor to any potential purchaser.

March against Ashley and potentially scare off any foreign invester who doesnt want the same fate.

My view is that we get organised. Perhaps sing a few choice witty chants before and during each game that shows the world what an idiot Ashley is, what a poor squad of mercenaries we have, and how its all out of our hands.

So for the second time Ashley asks for more money than anyone in the world is willing to pay, alomost as if he never had any intention of selling in the first place (or second). Any truth in the talk that he has set the club up as a massive tax write off from the get go ?

Let's face it, it's a bit late for outrage at the way the Market Trader operates, and as I've commented before, the football authorities will only look at the suitability of a club owner if there is some legal angle that could come back and embarass them in the future. The whole fit and proper owner stance is just a massive bum covering operation. For the moment we're stuck with the market trader and sir lie-alot, in the same way we're stuck with a number of players who only have themselves to blame for their not being in the top flight.
I hope there is some credance to the Barry Moat story and I would be happier with an owner who has some outside investment behind him. Let's face it, we've seen with the market trader that we as supporters don't have any sway with a sole owner, perhaps having to appease other investers may eliminate the kind of plain stupid decision making that he's been guilty of over the past couple of years.
On the player front, if Trader Mike's plan has always been to gamble as much as possible with the fortunes of the club in order to make a buck irrespective of what division we're playing in, he would have ensured that whoever was managing us had thrown the so called kids in last season and gambled on one or two of them shining in that environment, raising their sell-on value.
The bottom line is, there was no plan. He's been winging it since he bought the club and he continues to.
There are ways of expressing our disgust at Ashley and his cronies without compromising our support of Newcastle United. It's up to us as fans to find it.
It's no good targetting Sports Direct. Trader Mike's done an excellent job of undermining that business all on his own. It's even less good targetting the club as anything we do to lessen the potential worth to prospective buyers means we're stuck with the current set-up even longer. We're between a rock and a hard place but it up to all of us to handle the situation with as much dignity as possible, if only to disappoint the circling sharks at News International and Sky.

I think we're going to have to accept that this low life and his cockney spivs are hell bent on destroying our club . What on earth would possess anybody to have JFK as manager . Utter rubbish , doesn't know how to play proper football , just lump it and run . Anybody who gives Shola Ameobi a 3 year contract must be wrong in the mind . I was one of those who watched the friendly against Leeds ( one of the few opportunities I get to take my girls to SJP) Whereas Carroll won almost every ball in the air , Shola did nowt . Carroll would be a good foil for somebody like Nile Ranger, with a bit more pace . I think we'll have to accept that for now our team is going to be barely recognisable , but the one thing we have to inject is some pace . Although risky I would play a younger vibrant team as follows Harper , R Taylor S Taylor Kadar/Coloccini (haven't seen Kadar so guessing he's decent and Enrique, Lua Lua Smith Guthrie and Jonas midfield and Carroll and Ranger up front . After watching the performance at Villa last season where the "experienced" players showed neither , pace , energy or any real will for a fight , I'd rather have players who are willing to have a go, at least if we're sinking let's have people on board willing to give their all. The least Toon suppoerters expect is Pride and Passion , which they should all have . Don't these people know there are thousands who would give their all to play for the Toon

I'm not going back as long as ashley is in charge, away games only and plenty of them. If we can keep a good away following it will be obvious to new investors the fans are still there.

All we can do is look to hurt ashley financially. Dont put any more money into the club, he's using it to kill it. The only positive left is that he has to spend his own cash propping up the debts and overpaid rubish players.

If this forces administration so be it its possibly the only way to a new owner, alternatively if he wants to prop the club up by the tune of 40M a year with no income coming in, let him, he will eventually run out of cash that way.

Just laugh at the amount of money he looses each day. Dont worry guys we can rebuild the club when he has gone, it will be a magnificant time when it comes... like the mid/early 90s all over again.

Sy said:

I agree with DJC, we must use LuaLua, Ranger and others with pace and try and forget the dismal team which ended last season. They're hungry and want to prove themselves and should fight for the team a hell of a lot more than the majority of last season's mob.

Get ready for mid-table mediocrity though. Last season our squad was too small for the Premier League. This season we'll be starting with at least four less players in the squad and the Championship season is an extra eight league games. A couple of injuries and we've had it.

Thing with kinnear is, he is full of crap, totally disrespectful, should of kept his mouth shut, and especially saying they wanted to annouce it the week Sir Bobby died, is utter disgraceful, just strengthens my view on him and the other two.

Maybe Mr Kinnear wants to get his story straight for one, one minute he is on the bbc, saying he has told fat mike it will be three months, then later on sky, he says i would expect to be back in one month, erm which is it.

Not to forget his little dig at the fans and shearer, if this guy comes back, think will be off to support gateshead

Oh dear what can the matter be,
we've got an owner called Michael Ashley,
can anyone save us from this utter trash Lee
will somebody buy us out there.

Then he goes out and gets Dennis Wise,
and Mr. Llambias tells nothing but lies,
they take no notice of the fans cries,
please somebody buy us out there.

Keegan was boss but he started thinking,
something was wrong,in fact it was stinking,
he got out and the ship started sinking,
Oh! somebody buy us out there.

In came Kinnear as Mike Ashleys man,
but he was just there to carry the can,
does nobody care for the Newcastle fan,
Help! Somebody buy us out there.

They brought in big Al when it was too late,
clowns had already sealed our Toons fate,
relegation guarantees a much lower gate,
nobody will buy us out there.
