Who's our next messiah? Garth Crooks or Ricky Villa?

By Lee Ryder on Sep 4, 09 11:51 AM

At times, even in victory, Chris Hughton has looked like a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

The caretaker boss has had a thankless task knowing that at any split second everything he's been working on could be swiped away from him if new owners were to move in and takeover.

For most Geordies that day probably can't come quick enough but surely now is the time to give Hughton credit where it is due for the caretaker coach that is poised to take manager of the month in the Championship.

Certainly those hilarious Villa fans who unfurled the banner "Who is your next Messiah - Ant or Dec?" probably have never guessed it would be the Londoner with more links at the likes of Spurs, West Ham and Brentford - in fact the not so good old Tottenham theme that Mike Ashley has introduced at SJP for once has something positive around it.

Steady on though this has only been a good start in the Second Division.

And the burning question has to be how long can Hughton keep this team motivated?

Many have compared the situation to that of Glenn Roeder who after a successful stint as caretaker was handed the job on a full-time basis...

Unlike Glenn, Hughton does not have the advantage of being a former captain of the club.

And - forgive me for racing ahead - if Newcastle were to fight their way back into the Premier League with Ashley still at the helm and Hughton in charge what would the expectations then?

Well back to the now for now and it certainly has to be a case of hats off Mr Hughton but none of us can get carried away with anything at the moment - not even league leadership or manager of the month awards.

Good Morning Lee from the USA.

Yes i think Chris has done a great job and lets be honest no one in the world would of expected the start we have.

But as soon as Shola and Andy were injured it spells bad news all around.

We pulled out 2 wins in the week against 2 poor teams and i am worried with our play unless we buy of course.

I am ok with Chris being in charge but that will all change when we are taken over.

I must be the only geordie who does not want AS as he has no experience and i found the play when he was in charge really poor.

I can see JFK coming back to the club in some capacity on a month to month basis.

backward step we all know but that is what ashley wants.

Lete be positive and i assume we will have 3 players by tuesday.

With Newcastle things are never that simple.

So the latest American takeover has collapsed what a surprise. ???????????????

There are strange things happening behind the scenes, everybody who comes forward to buy the club are all dropping like fly's.

I know we have a overdraft of obout 30 million , but I think there is more to this than meets the eye, 30 million for a football club is not a lot in todays market, something strange going on here??

Don't sound so down Lee.The great escape
made by our,so called big stars, has not
been bad. Apart from Bassong I think we
have not missed their contributions.
Think of all those wayward, usually skyward,
shots. One of them on target would have
kept us up,just one.

It's so funny, but if shearer was already boss, and we were top of the table, then you would be singing, no shouting his praises from the roof tops, he would be the best thing to have ever happened to the Toon. Messiah's and prodigal son blah blah blah.
But because its only Hughton, and he's a 'suvena', well its just not good enough. You've already got the hangmans noose around his neck, just waiting for him to fail.
Shearer must be given time Hughton must hang.
No wonder everybody laughs at us.
PATHETIC.

I have to fully agree with little Davey, its becoming a joke to even our own now.

Houghton was always meant to be temporary, he will admit himself he is a coach not a manager and when the chips are down he will be found out. The current injury crisis/ridiculous squad situation plays into his defensive first mentality.

Suvena is a new one on my little Davey, did you mean sureƱo?
