Geremi farce gets January window off to a false start

By Lee Ryder on Jan 4, 10 07:56 PM

Just when you thought that 2010 looked like a much needed fresh start for Geremi and the chance for Newcastle to decrease their Premier League wage budget - the supposed move to Turkish side Ankaragucu seems off.

All had looked good from a Newcastle point of view when the player was paraded on Turkish TV in front of fans who believed that the ex-Real Madrid man was theirs!

However, United have angrily denied he has quit the club and released a statement claiming talk that he had quit the club was "extremely premature."

It leaves many feeling that another farce has unfolded with Newcastle right in the middle of it.

Surely a player earns £58,000 per week and doesn't play should be offloaded at the first opportunity and any such exit should be encouraged?

Instead a statement is released by United arguing that Geremi is still "our player" and reminding us that his chances of winning a move are now hindered by his involvement in the African Cup of Nations in Angola.

Are you really surprised by the whole thing?

There's been a picture of him with Ankaragucu's president on their website!

Lee, it's a farce, but it seems it was Turkish side Ankaragucu who created the problem. The good news is that it looks like Geremi will leave this month - good for him and good for Newcastle - and there's 60K/week we don't need to pay out, and it will help bring new players in. Let's hope we get Beckford at a reasonable price, and Kilgallon too, and that we also bring Danny Simpson in permanently, since Ferguson doesn't seem to want him - all 3 will be free agents come this summer - so their clubs will want to do a deal this month.

I just hope we don,t go down the road of ( Let,s wait and see what happens ) Delaying Tactics from Ashley?

If we are not quick, we are going to lose out on Beckford and Kilgallon, They are getting allot of publicity just now and I am hearing Prem Clubs are now interested in these players.

Why Why, every season do we hold back until the last day of the transfer window and end up with the crap nobody else wants.

And whose to say come the end of the Transfer window we don,t sell one of our top players if the price is right, Sorry for moaning but we all know what has happen in the last few years with Ashley???????????????

WE NEED THESE PLAYERS NOW, WE HAVE STOPPED SCORING GOALS AND NEED A LIFT.

I've watched the toon over the last few weeks and if you want me to be brutally honest we are awful. At some point reality will hit home. The quality of the football has at times been not much better than that seen on a Sunday morning , the reason we are top of the championship is in all honesty down to the fact the standard of the league is terrible . I didn't realise how much difference there was until this season . Even if , and to be quite honest I certainly wouldn't count our chickens on recent displays , we do gain promotion , trust me , this squad will get embarrassed on a weekly basis . No pace , no passing and certainly no apparent structure to how we play . Let's not get carried away , we really are a mediocre team in a very poor league . We certainly need signings with a bit of pace and creativity. I find it even more baffling that we have the opportunity to rid ouselves of Geremi and release another 60k a week , there has to be something more to this , I can only assume the Turkish club want us to pay some of his wages or he wants a loyalty payment , otherwise why would you keep a player on that money who doesn't play and is now off to Africa for a month . Lee surely some digging around would give us the explanation.
