Sounds like sour grapes from Robbie Savage

By Lee Ryder on Aug 13, 10 08:31 AM

As a player, you can't fault Robbie Savage for what he does on the pitch, he's full of running, never shirks a challenge, chips in with his fair share of goals, does everything he can to win the game for his team, knows when to avoid getting sent off in the heat of battle and all in all is a great example of a player who plays for the shirt.

Perhaps his biggest problem therefore, has been his gob or his brain which is too slow when allowing him to engage in making such stupid comments.

Like Andy Gray, Savage thinks Newcastle United will be relegated this season - well what a brave prediction that is, a bloke on the outside tips a team that has just been promoted to go down the season after they were relegated from the Premier League.

In some ways, it's good to get opinions from an expert on the matter, given that Savage knows all about relegation battles from his time at Leicester, where he finished rock bottom in 2002 to go down and the time he spent battling the drop with Derby County last term.

Savage has made a career out of playing for clubs that play in front of underwhelming crowds and doesn't know what it's like to play regular football in front of 52,000 fans.

He'd love to have played for NUFC.

Therefore he won't know that on their day, the St James' Park crowd can inspire the side to beat ANYBODY in the Premier League.

Yes, it didn't work out like that in the 2008/09 season with the club in total disarray, but for Savage to claim the Magpies need 10 or 12 new players is the cheapest of shots from a Derby County player at his fellow professionals at NUFC.

A team who made winning the Championship look so easy, will the Rams do that this year?

I doubt it.

Well, at least he didn't throw Coloccini's shirt in the bin like he did with Maldini's top before Wales took on Italy that time!

Perhaps one thing that United fans and Savage have both got in common is that they'd walk up the A1 on their hands on knees for the chance to play one game for Newcastle in front of a full house.

DO YOU THINK UNITED HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO STAY UP?

Well said Lee-blokes a fool whos jumped on the lets slate Newcastle bandwagon-there are plenty of relegation fodder for the drop who are worse sides than us-our aim will be to finish top of them lot-which should see us well safe-and who knows we might just battle to finish in the top 12! Ide be over the moon with that! Unrealistic fans? only according to the media....

This clown can't help himself, 10-12 players to finish higher than the likes of Wolves, Wigan, Blackpool, Blackburn, Mackems, Brum, Stoke etc? What a complete tool this man is.
I mean he played for some of the biggest clubs in the land didn't he? He talks like he played the game, rubbish!

Savage has always been the same, gobby, but hi its got him a well paid job hosting 5 live 606 on Saturdays and he seems to pop up on plenty of talk shows pain and rectum spring to mind.

LEE,it feels like it was just yesterday when i mentioned in these columns the bad reading some players-ex players give. This is a classic example of mouth before brain, problem is some of these jerks are paid to provoke. You just need to listen to some of those who sit on TV studio sofas to understand the likes of Savage.NO BRAIN NO PAIN,as they say.

Pundits and players tale the easy option by picking us to go down. Savage can say what he likes, but as you rightly say Lee, when St James Park is full and rocking, they CAN inspire the team to get a result against anybody.
Someone like Robbie Savage is completely unaware of how much value our support is to the team. I'm not going to spend too much time crying over what an average player who has played for average clubs says about the great Newcastle United.

Robbie Savage. Given a brain he would be dangerous, fortunately for the human race, he hasn't got one.

Q. Can we stay up?
A. Yes.
Q. Will we stay up?
A. We'd better!

Why are we all so obsessed by what others say/think? Do you really think we won't be in a relegation battle?

Savage is paid to give an opinion, just as you are Lee. Now his opinion and Andy Gray's is that we will go down. I disagree with that, so do you but in the end it doesn't really bloody matter. Why take the time to try to discredit their opinions? It's really not worth it.

We are obsessed with the "media" but who cares what they think?

It would be much better if we used the space on these and other blogs to discuss why or why not we think we will stay up. What news there is from the open practice or from news conferences etc
