Tough times for Liverpool but NUFC fans will understand

By Lee Ryder on Aug 6, 10 07:54 AM

Just 12 months ago Newcastle United fans were relying on the guidance and advice of London banker Keith Harris.

Known as football's Mr Fixit, Harris was entrusted to find a buyer for the Magpies but failed to do so.

And when I heard him gobbing off about bidders who he refused to name that want to buy Liverpool, my heart instantly went out to the Kop fans.

Like us, I think Liverpool are a working class club whose loyal fans deserve some decent steer on exactly what's going on.

Obviously, their current owners have allowed the club to stoop from being Champions League winners to playing some twobob European team last night just to qualify for the Europa League, and they only just scraped through to qualify for that.

Oh yes, I can talk being a Newcastle fan the way our team have drifted in recent years not to mention our character building season in the Championship.

But if you can't feel sorry for Liverpool fans, at least as a Toon fan who has been through one of Harris' failed attempts to sell the club you can understand what they are going through.

Football in the top flight is an unsteady platform these days and as we experienced the floor can quickly give way in a short space of time (Leeds fans know too).

Not for a minute am I suggesting it will happen to Liverpool but the potentials for failure are almost certainly there for all to see.

what you seem to forget is that liverpool has a rich history of WINNING things. newcastle are an awfully run club with no heart or soul (if it had any in the first place = no-one wanted/will want to buy them. liverpool, in contrast shouldnt have a problem getting sold (while newcastle gather dust on the top shelf hahahahaha)

Re - Mr WUM - Newcastle have slashed their wage bill massively - have Liverpool? They have debts coming out of every nook and cranny, whilst being out of their normal competition zone.

They'll not sell for what would sort their finances.

slashing your wage bill is no use these days successful clubs like man utd and chelsea have huge wages (its what happens when you have "quality" - although debatable after the world cup). i'm sorry but the players you have right now are not good enough even for the championship.
ashley is a mackem brucie is a hero quinn is the real mccoy

Not good enough for the Championship?

A season long unbeaten home record and finishing a good ten points clear at the top suggests otherwise.

Obviously a moron.

Liverpool will be sold, no doubt about that, the question is whether or not the new owners will be all they say they are.

Ashley certainly wasnt.

what's struck me the last couple of days is the scousers saying they don't care who buys their club 'so long as they have the interest of the fans at heart'.
Sorry everyone but these multi mill/bill owners don't.That's football club ownership these days, certainly at the top level.

Sal...when MA bought NUFC he said he new nowt about running a football club...he turned out to be what he said (but is he learning?). It was John Hall who told us MA was the answer to our problems.

So, AbuGrabbi United are about to be joined the Liverpoo Ah-so's.

The Triads versus the Sheikydowns.

It could be a very interesting season, a very interesting season indeed.
