Another one bites the dust...

By Lee Ryder on Aug 7, 09 06:43 PM

Habib Beye posed in an Aston Villa shirt for the first time tonight at Villa Park to signal another demoralising blow for Toon fans with the Senegal international the third player to leave United in a week.

The Chronicle revealed on July 29, the day of the Leeds game, that the trio of Beye, Sebastien Bassong and Obafemi Martins were preparing to say farewell at St James's Park and on the eve of the trip to West Brom, United's paper thin squad has been decimated yet further.

Martins didn't even make it to kick off against Leeds and was talking about terms with his agent in a city centre restaurant while his team-mates battled on without him.

Let's face it Newcastle United's trophy drought was beyond the joke long before now with some Geordie kids now asking their dads what it was like to go to a cup final (back in 1999 at Wembley remember?) let alone win one.

To talk about actually winning something you'd be better off talking to Grandad with grainy footage and distant memories of 1969 all that exists of Newcastle United's last glorious hour.

Yes it's almost 40 years and counting and as Newcastle United head into their Carling Cup tie with Coventry, once again some people are secretly asking themselves: Can Newcastle United win this?

The Keegan feel-good factor

By Lee Ryder on Apr 6, 08 06:13 PM

It could only happen in Newcastle couldn't it?

What am I talking about?

The fact that in one season morale in the stands at St James's Park has gone from rock bottom to sky high in just a few months.

And after United's superb 3-0 win over Reading a season that many people couldn't wait to see the back of is now turning into one that nobody wants to end.

Geremi scores at SpursNewcastle United foursome Oba Martins, Geremi, Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye have more in common than just being gigantic names in the third world.

The Toon stars will be first to admit they've all had some tough times on Tyneside since signing on the dotted line at Gallowgate but after slow starts, some slower than others, the quartet are beginning to show their quality.

But did it all come together for the Toon's African aces at White Hart Lane?

The naked truth for Toon fans

By Lee Ryder on Mar 25, 08 07:06 AM

The tired old cliche about waiting for a bus before two come out at once could well be the case on Sunday for Newcastle United at Spurs.

I mean after the dizzy heights of beating Fulham at the weekend the Geordie nation rediscovered what it was like to taste that winning feeling once more after a steady performance against the Cottagers.

Mike Ashley reportedly said: "Let's get naked and have a party!" as he entered the director's suite after the win before Toon fans drank the Bigg Market and the Quayside dry!
